Baseball team -- The Cougar baseball team capped off a successful Region IX tournament with a second-place finish. WNCC opened with a win over Southeast Community College in a play-in game. WNCC then went to the double elimination tournament and captured two wins over Trinidad State 3-2 and Lamar Community College 6-4 to move into the championship. Sunday's championship games were close. WNCC was one out from capturing their second Region IX tourney title in program history, but Lamar came back to win 6-5 in 11 innings. Lamar then won the if-neccessary game to advance to the district payoffs.
