Women's basketball edged out by Western Nebraska

The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team lost its final game of 2019 to Western Nebraska 76-69. 

The Lancers held a three-point lead after three quarters, but were outscored 22-12 in the final frame to drop to 7-6 on the season.

Sophomore forward Paula Martinez Sanz led all scorers with 18 points. Freshman forward Montse Gutierrez Ibanez scored 17 and freshman forward Emilia Axelsson scored 15. Ibanez and Axelsson tied with a team-high seven rebounds.

Freshman Ane Esnal Aguirre scored eight points, had a team-high seven assists and pulled down four rebounds. 

The EWC women return to court on Jan. 6 at Northeastern Junior College. Then Region IX-North play begins with road games at Sheridan on Jan. 8 and at Northwest College on Jan. 11. The Lancers return home for a Jan. 15 tilt against Gillette College at 5:30 p.m.
