MCC women fall to No. 7 Western Nebraska 103-53

SCOTTSBLUFF The Western Nebraska Community College women won their 15th straight game Tuesday night topping McCook Community College 103-53. The Cougars, moved up to No. 7 Monday in the National Junior College Athletic Association polls and improve to 17-1 with the win.

"We didn't bring a competitive mindset and allowed Western to do whatever they wanted offensively." said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett. "They are talented and really executed their stuff on both ends."

After taking a 25-6 first quarter lead, MCC came back and outscored WNCC 21-19 in the second quarter despite turning the ball over 16 times in the first half.

The Cougars held a 44-27 edge at the half, then came out and scored the first eight points of the second half and ran away with the game, leading 80-40 through three quarters.

"We have to get back to who we are defensively as a group. We lacked effort on that end tonight and that just can't be acceptable for them moving forward," said Pritchett.

Freshman Carla Torrubia Cano (Melilla Spain) led MCC with 11 points. Sophomore Makenna Bodette (Colorado Springs) had nine points and eight rebounds. Freshman Gil Whiting (Montgomery, Ala.) added nine points.

Western's T.K. Morehouse led all scorers with 28 points. The Cougars held a 49-32 edge in rebounds.

MCC turned the ball over 27 times, Western had 14.

The Lady Indians fall to 10-4 and 0-1 in the south sub-region and have lost their last three games.

"We have to get back to who we are defensively as a group. We lacked effort on that end tonight and that just can't be acceptable for them moving forward," said Pritchett. "Tonight is hopefully an eye opener for us to understand the importance of competing every day. We have to figure that out and quickly."

MCC returns to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center Friday taking on Northeastern Junior College (7-8) at 5:30 p.m. then host Southeast Community College (6-12) Saturday at 2 p.m. which will be an MCC Boosters free popcorn game.
