Nine WNCC baseball players make JUCO All-Nebraska team

                The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team put nine players on the Omaha World Herald JUCO All-Nebraska team over the weekend.

                The Cougars, who finished the season last May with a 30-30 record and winners of the Empire Conference placed five on the first team and four on honorable mention.

                WNCC's first team selection included sophomore utility player Alex Achtermann, who batted .380 last season while playing first base, outfield, third base, and pitcher.

                Other Cougars making first team were sophomore Ryan Grasser at second base, freshman Brandan Maher at third base, sophomore Stuart Eurich as an outfielder, and freshman Jacob Pekol as a pitcher.

                Grasser batted .308 last season while Maher hit .298. Eurich batted .241, while Pekol had a 4-5 record.

                Earning honorable mention status was infielder sophomores Brandon Bachar, and catcher Isaac Taylor, and freshman pitchers Alex Oehme and Claude Bova.

                Southeast Community College, who qualified for the NJCAA Division II World Series, placed eight on the first team, including captain of the team Grant Van Scoy, who is headed to the Big 10 next year to play at Illinois next year.

                Former WNCC player Joe Moran, a Scottsbluff graduate and a WESTCO Zephyr player, was tabbed as a honorable mention on the Small College team. Moran finished his career at Bellevue University this past May.
