WNCC baseball falls 5-2 to Mesa

              MESA, Ariz. - The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team out-hit Mesa Community College in a 5-2 setback on Saturday in Mesa, Arizona

            It marked the final game of the Cougars' six-game spring break Arizona road swing. WNCC finished 0-6 on the trip and dropped to 6-14 overall.

            In Saturday's contest, the Cougars plated single runs in both the fourth and seventh innings.

             WNCC totaled eight hits compared to Mesa's six. Ty McAninch and Hunter Nelson both finished 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cougar offense. Nelson doubled twice and drove in one run. Finishing with one hit each were Arnoldo Maltos-Garcia, Dermot Fritsch, Joey Olson, and Jacob Hubert.

             Fritsch and Olson scored one run each. Maltos-Garcia and Braden Lofink each recorded a stolen base.

             Kale Litzelman allowed two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out two in six innings on the mound. Nate Kolb gave up just one earned run on two hits and struck out one in two innings of relief.

             The Cougars are scheduled to play at home for the first time on Wednesday at Cleveland Field. WNCC will host Northeastern Junior College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
