WNCC men top No. 16 CSI 82-78

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team opened the Cory Fehringer era with a big 82-78 win over No. 16 College of Southern Idaho Friday in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Cougars shot 45 percent from field and put four players in double figures.

The Cougars and CSI were tied at 40 at halftime. In the second half, WNCC shot 43 percent and nailed four 3-pointers in pulling in front for the win. The Cougars were also 12 of 18 from the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes, while CSI was just 8 of 18.

WNCC was led in scoring by Vinnie Shahid with 17 points. He hit two treys and was 7 of 9 shooting at the free-throw line.

Scottsbluff graduate Trent Harris followed with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Djordje Dimitrijevic pitched in 11 points with two treys. Marlon Sierra also scored 11 points.

Jalan Brown led the charge on the glass with seven boards. Jeremy Ruffin finished with six rebounds and Sierra had five.

WNCC (1-0) will be back in action Saturday against the Ft Collins All-Stars back in Cheyenne. tHE Ft. Collins All-stars topped LCCC 111-107 in overtime on Friday.
