WNCC men capture 10th straight win

 

                RIVERTON, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team put five players in double figures in registering their 10th straight victory with an 103-85 win over Central Wyoming College Saturday afternoon in Riverton, Wyoming.

                The Cougar men moved to 12-2 on the season to finish the first semester. The Cougars last lost back in the early part of November to fifth-ranked Salt Lake Community College. Since then, WNCC has reeled off 10 straight wins while scoring at least 100 points in seven of those 10 wins.

                The Cougars built a 63-45 lead at halftime and busted open a close game. Djodje Dimitrijevic hit a 3-pointer for a 20-9 lead. WNCC pushed the lead to 31-16 on a Martin Roub trey followed by a 3-pointer by Jervay Green with 5:30 to play in the half for a 49-31 lead.

                The second half saw each team score 40 points. Central Wyoming made a comeback, cutting the lead to five points on several occasions, including 77-72. That was as close as they got as the Cougars quickly put the lead back to double digits.

                WNCC shot 54 percent from the field and buried 17 3-pointers. WNCC was led in scoring by Marlon Sierra with 21 points. Sierra also buried four 3-pointers and pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds. Green led the team with six assists and two steals.

                Also netting double digits for the Cougars were Green with 18 points and three treys, Vinnie Shahid and Martin Roub with 17 points each, and Dimitrijevic with 13 points.

                WNCC, 12-2, will be off until January 5 when they host Laramie County Community College in a Region IX South sub-region contest.
