Western Nebraska Community College head coach Cory Fehringer along with his coaching staff and returning freshmen Jervay Green and Martin Roub have been selected to the inaugural JA32 all-star game to be held in July in Florida.

                Fehringer, who just completed his second season at WNCC, is one of many coaches that will be coaching the 32 most talented junior college players in the country for the event that will be held July 11-13 at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida.

                "I think as younger coaches, we work hard in order to help our players to get the respect they deserve and the opportunity they have earned as well," Fehringer said. "For me, it is just a testament of the investment the players have put into the program that allowed me the same opportunity to go out and perform on a successful platform."

                The other three coaching staffs for the all-star game will include the coaches from Eastern Florida State, College of Southern Idaho, and Indian Hills.

                Last season, Fehringer guided the WNCC men to a 27-8 record and a Region IX championship, the first men's basketball championship since 2001. The Cougars went 1-1 at the NJCAA national tournament.

                Not only will Fehringer will be going to coach in the JA32 All-star game, but he will be taking his assistant coaches Roybell Baez and Billy Engel with him to help coach.

                Two Cougars will also make the trip as well as part of the 32 most talented junior college players in the country with Green and Roub.

                Fehringer said it is special for these two to play in an event like this, where there should be many coaches from the Division I, II and even NAIA level there watching.

                "I think choosing a college is extremely difficult for 18-year-old kids, especially if you are from the Czech coming to America," Fehringer said. "For Jervay and Martin, it continues to allow us to trust each other more and more committed to one another because of the confidence of being at Western Nebraska was one of the greatest decisions they have made so far."

                Last season, Green averaged 14.9 points a game while pulling down five rebounds. Green also dished off 3.7 assists and shot 50.9 percent from the field. Green finished off the season scoring in double figures in the last 11-straight games, including a season-high 35 points in a Region IX tournament second-round win over Central Wyoming.

                Roub, who is a 6-foot-10 forward that can play under the basket or shoot the 3-pointer, averaged 9.6 points a game a year ago while pulling down 2.9 rebounds. Roub shot 44.1 percent from the 3-point arc, burying 60 3-pointers. Roub shot 50 percent from the field. Roub had a season-high five 3-pointers in a game against Central Wyoming on December 16.

                The JA32 Classic will have four teams of eight players. The teams will practice the first day and then have competition over the next two days.
