Dru Kuxhausen buried seven 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead the No. 14 Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team by Western Wyoming Community College 93-90 Friday at Cougar Palace.

                Kuxhausen and Martin Roub combined for 46 points in the win. Kuxhausen connected on seven of 16 shooting from beyond the arc to help the Cougars stop a late second-rally by Western Wyoming. Roub, who just signed with Jacksonville State University earlier Friday, netted 20 points and 3-pointers in the win.

                The win moves the Cougars to 4-2 on the season and snaps a 2-game losing skid.

                WNCC will be back in action Saturday when they host Central Wyoming College at 4 p.m. Central Wyoming came back from 50-34 halftime deficit to topple Williston State 103-101 in the earlier game Friday. Williston and Western Wyoming will battle at 2 p.m. Saturday.

                There was plenty of offense scored in the contest with some defense. But the offense ruled for both teams.

                The Cougars blitzed the nets for 56 percent shooting in the first half, including burying 10 3-pointers. The second half, WNCC's shooting went cold just like the predicted snow that is forecasted this weekend. The Cougars shot just 38 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and were 27 percent from beyond the arc (3 of 11).

                Western Wyoming was consistent in shooting, making 52 percent in the first half and 45 percent in the second half. The Mustangs buried four treys in each half.

                The one area that stood out for both teams was free throws. Western Wyoming was 16 of 21 for the game while WNCC was 16 of 19.

                The contest was a battle in the first half as Western Wyoming led by eight points early, 26-18 and held a 32-30 lead with 7:23 to play in the half. WNCC rebounded on back-to-back treys by Kuxhausen and Henry Tanksley to take the lead at 40-32. WNCC led 54-43 at intermission.

                Western Wyoming outscored the Cougars 47-39 in the second half and actually had the momentum at the end. WNCC led 83-61 with under 10 minutes to play. That was when the Mustangs clawed their way back into the game at 83-79 on an 18-0 run.

                WNCC regrouped and led 91-81 with about two minutes to play on a Bryce Sanchious dunk.

                That dunk, which excited the crowd, also spurred the Mustangs to a 9-0 run to cut the lead to one, 91-90 on an Eddie Creal 3-point play with 1:37 to play. WNCC hit made 2 of 4 free throws late to lead 93-90 with 13.3 seconds to play. Western Wyoming had two shots to tie the game but both were off target and the Cougars escaped with the win.

                WNCC had four players in double figures. After Kuxhausen and Roub combined 46 points, Jervay Green tallied 16 and Sanchious had 10.

                Western Wyoming had three players in double figures. Trey Marble led all scorers with 27 points followed by 25 from Creal, and 14 from Manel Ayol.
