Sanchious scores 34 in WNCC win over Williston

WILLISTON, N.D. – Bryce Sanchious scored 34 points and the No. 16 Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to register a 111-93 win over Williston State College Thursday in Williston, North Dakota.

The win was the Cougars seventh straight and moves the Cougars to 10-2 on the season.

Shooting was a big reason for the Cougars win Thursday. WNCC shot 53 percent from the field while connecting on 12 3-pointers. Williston State shot 46 percent but only had six treys.

The difference was free throw shooting. The home-standing Tetons converted just 13 of 15 charity tosses. WNCC blistered the nets for 31 of 36 from the free throw line.

As much as the free throws were spread apart, the Tetons enjoyed a 51-47 halftime deficit and led by as much as six points for the first three minutes of the second half.

WNCC finally tied the game at 59-59 on a Dru Kuxhausen 3-pointer with 16:20 to play and didn't take their first lead of the second half until Jervay Green hit a bucket with 15:31 to play. WNCC finally started to put separation in the lead, leading by 10 points, 84-74, on a Martin Roub bucket.

WNCC hit the century mark with three minutes to play on a Roub 3-pointer and the Cougars kept the lead around double digits until the final margin.

The Cougars put four players in double figures. Sanchious led all scorers with 34 points. The sophomore was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line while converting three 3-pointers. Sanchious also pulled down seven rebounds.

Green finished with 26 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Green also converted two treys and dished off five assists.

Kuxhausen finished with 25 points, including burying four 3-pointers and going a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Roub finished with a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Roub hit three 3-pointers and had two assists.

WNCC, 10-2, will be back in action Friday when they face No. 24 Sheridan College at Williston, North Dakota.
