WNCC men shutout by LCCC

                The Western Nebraska Community College men's soccer team had its 3-game winning streak snapped to Region IX conference-leading Laramie County Community College 6-0 Friday afternoon at the Landers Soccer Complex.

                The Cougar men were outshot 12-6 in the contest by a Golden Eagle squad that received votes in last weeks' NJCAA national poll.

                Friday afternoon, the Golden Eagles netted three goals in each half for the final margin.

                LCCC, with the wind at their advantage, scored first with 27 minutes left to play in the opening half as Manny Tapia scored off an assist from Christian Corniel. LCCC made it 2-0 on a goal by Corniel with 15 minutes to play in the opening half before Torrington's Nathan Stitt made it 3-0 with a goal with 2;23 to play in the opening half.

                The second half saw Noe Ortiz-Pena scoring with 27 minutes left to play. Just six minutes later, Tapia netted his second goal to make it 5-0. LCCC added a sixth goal with 4:12 to play as Parker Longbottom headed the ball into the net off an assist from Jaxon Bridge.

                LCCC had eight corner kicks in the match while WNCC didn't have one.

Ruam Barbosa had 10 saves in net for WNCC.

                The Cougars will look to get back on the winning track when they host Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
