WNCC drops doubleheader to Trinidad

                TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team opened conference action Friday falling twice to defending Region IX champions Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado.

                The first game saw Trinidad score seven runs in the middle innings to capture the 9-3 win. The second contest saw Trinidad score six early runs in capturing the 10-5 win.

                WNCC started the first game with two in the first and led 3-2 after 2 ½ innings after Lindsey Allie scored the go-ahead run on an error by the catcher.

                Trinidad came back with three in the bottom of the frame to grab a 5=3 lead. WNCC had an opportunity in the fourth to place more runs as Emma Glawson and Sidnee Hogan led off with singles, but the Cougars couldn't get another big hit.

                Trinidad came back with four runs in the fourth for a 9-3 lead and held the Cougar bats in check the rest of the way.

                WNCC finished with seven hits. Glawson and Mickie Mills each had two hits. Hannah Baesler had two RBIs in the contest.

                Emma McMillan took the loss, going 3 2/3 innings in allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking out two. Glawson tossed 2 1/3 innings in allowing a run and a hit with one strikeout.

                The second contest saw the Trojans score in the first four innings in holding a 7-3 lead. WNCC plated two in the second on Hogan's 2-run single. WNCC added another run in the third on a McMillan run-scoring single.

                The Cougars final two runs came in the fifth as McMillan scored two with a ground ball that turned into an error to cut the lead to 7-5. Trinidad added three in the sixth for the final margin.

                Trinidad out hit WNCC 10-6. The Cougars had all singles while Trinidad had two home runs and a double in their 10 hits.

                Abriana Ramirez led the way with three hits, including two  runs scored. Kendall Glasgow also scored two runs, while Hogan had two RBIs.

                Glawson picked up the loss, going just a third of an inning in allowing three runs on three hits. Mickie Mills finished the game tossing 5 2/3 innings in allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out two.

                WNCC, 7-7, and Trinidad will face each other on Saturday with another conference doubleheader.
