WNCC women fall to No. 10 Seward County

                LIBERAL, Kan. – Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball buried nine 3-pointers, but shot just 29 percent for the game as No. 10 Seward County Community College came back for a 74-64 win.

                WNCC took a 20-12 lead in the first quarter and held a 33-31 at halftime. WNCC held a 31-22 lead at one time before the Saints outscored the Cougars 9-1 in the final minutes of the half.

                The second half was a battle between the two teams that were at the national tournament a year ago. Seward jumped in front 48-41 only to watch the Cougars come back to cut the Saints' lead to 53-51 after three on a Taylor Joplin 3-pointer.

                Seward scored the first six points of the fourth quarter for a 59-51 lead only to watch WNCC cut the lead to 61-57 on a Merle Wiehl bucket and a Tishara Morehouse old-fashioned 3-point play. Seard would go on to win by 10 points.

                WNCC had three in double figures. Wiehl led the team with 21 points while knocking down five 3-pointers. Allysah Booth and Joplin each finished with 14 points and two 3-pointers.

                Eva Langton led the team with seven boards while Boothe and R'Manie Pulling each had three assists.

                WNCC will be back in action Saturday when they face Garden City Community College at 2 p.m. in Liberal, Kansas.
