WNCC women run past Colorado Northwestern

                GILLETTE, Wyo. – Merle Wiehl poured in 27 points and the Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team captured its fifth win of the season with a 94-43 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College at Gillette, Wyoming, Saturday.

                Wiehl, who scored 25 points Friday night in a win over Gillette, has now scored 20 or more points in the five games. Wiehl has also scored 20 points in six of the seven games the Cougars have played this season.

                Saturday afternoon, the sophomore from Germany buried three 3-pointers while converting 12 of 20 from the field. Wiehl also pulled down rebounds, added two assists, and recorded three steals.

                WNCC also received contribution from several other players. Taylor Joplin tallied 17 points with three treys and four assists, while Tishara Morehouse had 14 points and three assists.

                A couple Cougars finished with eight points. Andrijana Reljic had eight points on four field goals while Kolby Underwood tallied eight points.

                WNCC shot 46 percent from the field while converting 7 of 10 free throws.

                The Cougar's defense was also stellar, holding the Spartans to 25 percent shooting and just 2 of 12 from beyond the arc.

                WNCC held a 53-39 rebound advantage. Reljic led the Cougars with nine boards wile Underwood tallied eight and Yuliyana Valcheva had seven.

                WNCC led 48-21 at halftime and had 44 of their points from within the paint.

                The Cougars depth was also instrumental, holding a 33-8 advantage over CNCC.

                WNCC, 5-2, will be back in action when they host the Thanksgiving Classic next Friday and Saturday. Friday's women's action has Eastern Wyoming College facing the Nebraska All-stars at 1:30 p.m. with the Cougar women taking on Trinidad State Junior College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's action has EWC taking on Trinidad State at 12 p.m. and the Cougars facing the Nebraska All-stars at 4 p.m.
