WNCC women top Northwest

                POWELL, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team captured their ninth straight win with a commanding 88-52 win over Northwest College Friday night in Powell, Wyoming.

                The Cougars put four in double figures in capturing their 10th win of the season.

                WNCC left little doubt in the game early on, rolling to a 31-17 lead after the first quarter and then doubling up the Trappers 50-25 at halftime. The Cougars outscored Northwest 38-27 in the second half for the win.

                WNCC shot 52 percent from the field and made 10 3-pointers on the night. WNCC had six treys in the first half and finished with four more in the second half.

                Merle Wiehl led the Cougars with 19 points. Wiehl also had two treys while pulling down five rebounds and dishing off four assists.

                Taylor Joplin followed with 16 points including four rebounds and three assists.

                R'Manie Pulling tallied 14 points. It was the freshman's fifth straight contest scoring double figure points off the bench. Pulling also led the team with five assists. Tishara Morehouse finished with 12 points with four rebounds and two 3-pointers.

                WNCC won the rebounding advantage 36-30 on the evening.

                WNCC, 10-2, will wrap up the first semester next weekend when they compete in a classic in Sheridan, Wyoming. WNCC will face Central Wyoming College on Friday before taking on the host team Sheridan College on Saturday.
