In June of 2022 Isaac Lu was named interim head women's basketball coach at Western Nebraska Community College. At just 23 years old, Lu became the youngest collegiate head coach in the country at any level.

In Coach Lu's first season at the helm, the Cougars accumulated a 21-9 record, going 9-1 in conference to be crowned Region IX South Champs. The year included a 63-52 victory over #5 ranked New Mexico Junior College. Five players moved on to play at the next level after the year, including two to D1 programs - Shiho Isono (Southern Utah) and Jayla Owen (North Dakota). Lu was voted the Region IX South Coach of the Year and was also named as an honoree on the 2023 WBCA Thirty Under 30 List, the only NJCAA head coach to the named to the list.

Lu joined the Cougars in August of 2020 as an assistant coach. During the 2020-2021 season, Lu served as the assistant to both the men's and women's basketball programs. Lu helped guide the women's team to a 17-6 record and an NJCAA National Tournament Appearance which was highlighted by a 63-60 upset over #1 ranked and seeded Jones College en route to an Elite Eight finish. The Cougars achieved a national ranking as high as the #10 spot during the course of the year. In the summer, Lu was selected to coach in the NJCAA Top 40 All-Star Event, where his squad won both games they played.

The 2021-2022 season marked Lu's second season at WNCC, and his first working exclusively with the women's basketball program. The Cougars finished the year with a 30-3 record and earned an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament where they knocked off Murray State College, Wabash Valley College, and South Plains College on their way to a Final Four finish. Seven players moved on to D1 programs after the season - Ale'jah Douglas (Clemson), Aminata Zie (Minnesota), Payton Fields (St. Bonaventure), Ashley Panem (Radford), Shayane Poirot-Allard (Western Carolina), Amani Brown (University of Louisiana - Monroe), and Shanti Henry (Sam Houston State). Lu played an instrumental role in post player skill development throughout the year, notably mentoring Aminata Zie, who was the most effiicient player in the country. The Cougars finished the season with a top 3 scoring offense and ranked as the #4 team in the country.

Prior to arriving at WNCC, Lu attended college at the University of San Francisco, where he graduated in 2020 with a BS in Kinesiology. Lu was a practice player for the USF Dons' Women's Basketball Team from 2017-2020. Lu was born in Taipei, Taiwan but grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated from his alma mater, President William McKinley High School, in 2016.
