Highland Softball Travels To Oklahoma For Four Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Highland softball headed south last week for four games as Mother Nature continues to deter the Scotties from playing at Scottie Park.

The trip to Enid, Oklahoma saw the Scotties play Western Nebraska on Saturday in a neutral site doubleheader and Highland suffered 10-6 and 14-13 losses. Then on Sunday Highland notched a split against the host for the weekend Northern Oklahoma College-Enid falling 9-7 in game one and bouncing back to win game two 6-1.

Game 1 vs. Western Nebraska
Scotties opened up game one against Western Nebraska with a triple by Chevelle Sartin and then a line drive hit by Alexis Hodapp getting the Scotties a run in the bottom of the first inning after Western Nebraska tallied a run in the top of the inning. Each team added another run in the second and then Western Nebraska plated three in the fourth but the Scotties answered to tie the game at 5-5. In the fifth Hannaha Schmidt gave the Scotties the lead with an RBI single by Western Nebraska tied it in the sixth and put together a four-run seventh to take the game 10-6.

In the loss Sartin led the Scotties at the plate going 3-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI's, while Schmidt went 2-4 with an RBI and run scored. Bailey Lacy took the loss in the circle tossing 6.2 innings giving up 10 runs on eight hits, four walks and three hit batters, while striking out four.

Game 2 vs. Western Nebraska
After Western Nebraska scored a run in the top of the first in the second game the Scottie offense got rolling in the bottom of the first with a four-run inning which included a two-run homer by Allyssa Griggs giving Highland the 4-1 lead. Both teams would score at least one run in almost every half inning the rest of the game. By the end of the third inning the game was tied at 6-6, then a four-run fourth gave Western Nebraska the lead. Highland answered in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run inning knotting the game up at 11-11. Each team tallied a pair of runs in the sixth and in the seventh Western Nebraska took a 14-13 advantage and held the Scotties off the board in the bottom of the seventh to finish the game.

Sarah Bond tossed 4.1 innings in the loss giving up 11 runs only five earned on 13 hits, while Kennedi Ratcliff tossed 2.2 innings giving up three runs on three hits and four walks. Sartin and Sirena Salazar each had a three hit contest as Chevelle went 3-5 with three runs scored and Sirena was 3-4 with two doubles, two RBI's and a run scored. Hodapp and Griggs each had two hits.

Game 1 vs. Northern Oklahoma College-Enid
An RBI single by Salazar initiated the scoring in game one against NOC-Enid for the Scotties but NOC-Enid responded with two runs in second, third and fourth innings each while Highland had two runs in the third trailing 6-3 after four innings. Scotties put a run on the boar in the fifth and three more in the sixth to gain a 7-6 advantage but NOC-Enid put forth a three-run bottom of the sixth and used that to earn the win.

Hodapp and Schmidt each went 3-4 in the loss with Hodapp notching three RBI's, while Schmidt had a double and run scored. Isabella Konieczka went 2-4 with a run scored, while inside the circle Lacy, Uthe and Griggs all pitched.

Game 2 vs. Northern Oklahoma College-Enid
After both teams tallied a run in the first inning the Scotties would do the remainder of the scoring in game two against NOC-Enid as Highland got a solo home run in the fourth by Griggs and one in the sixth by Uthe to lead 3-1. Highland added insurance runs in the top of the seventh scoring three runs to ultimately lift Highland to the 6-1 win.
Sarah Bond was solid in the circle tossing all seven innings to earn the win giving up one run on seven hits and one walk, while striking out a pair. At the plate Hodapp was 2-4 with a double, two RBI's and a run scored, while Uthe went 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, walk and home run.

Highland continues to see their schedule be fluid and change with the weather as all the matchups set for the week of February 24th have been cancelled. Scotties are scheduled for a scrimmage against Benedictine on Tuesday, February 26th at Missouri Western and hope to get back to game action after that.
