WNCC baseball drops two to Garden City CC on Sunday

                GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball managed to get hits in their doubleheader on Sunday against Garden City Community College but, unfortunately, the Cougars couldn't get the runs dropping the pair of contests.

                In the opener, WNCC jumped out to a 3-0 lead but couldn't hold the lead at the Broncbusters came back for the 10-6 win. The second game saw the Cougars rip off nine hits, including four doubles, but fell 12-2.

                WNCC will look to get into the win column this weekend when they host Miles Community College Saturday and Sunday in doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m. both days.

                WNCC opened the first game with a single by Isaac Block and a run-scoring double by Oscar Perez. Jack Pauley and Jonathan Bermudez each had run-scoring doubles to put WNCC up 3-0.

                Garden City scored nine answered for a 9-3 lead before WNCC plated a run in the fifth and two in the seven for the 10-6 final.

                Lincoln Trujillo took the loss on the mound, going 3 2/3 innings in allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out four. Alex Achterman finished off the game going 2 1/3 innings with five hits, a run scored, and a strikeout.

                Offensively, WNCC finished with nine hits, led by the two-hit attack of Jonathan Bermudez. Bermudez had two RBIs and a double in the win. Oscar Perez also had a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs, while Isaac Block had two runs scored.

                Garden City scored two in the first only to watch WNCC slice the lead in half with a single run in the second. After that, the Broncbusters pushed the lead to 8-1 with three runs in the second and third. Garden City finished the game with 13 hits to WNCC's nine.

                WNCC offense was led by the two-hit attach of Garret Smith. Smith finished with two doubles and a RBI. Also collecting doubles in the contest were Perez and Brandon Bachar. Ty Benson finished the game with two stolen bases.

                Block took the loss on the mound, going three innings, allowing six hits and eight runs, while striking out two. Montana Giesbrecht tossed two innings of five-hit ball allowing two runs, while Zac Moran went 1 2/3 innings with two hits, two runs, and two strikeouts.
