  • WNCC’s Young earns three awards at WNCC awards ceremony; will return for a third year for baseball

    When Chandler Young came to Western Nebraska Community College from Ft. Collins, Colorado, he came to make a difference. There was no doubt that Young did make a difference. Young, a pitcher for the WNCC baseball team, picked up three honors at the annual awards ceremony. Young’s biggest honor was an all-college award when he was picked as the Outstanding Student Ambassador. Not only was Young on the baseball team, but his role as an ambassador of the college also helped him help other students, current and future. He was honored to have received that honor.
  • WNCC baseball drops doubleheader to South Mountain

    PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball dropped a doubleheader to South Mountain Community College on Tuesday in the Cougar’s first outing during their Spring Break trip in Arizona. WNCC managed just two hits in the opening game and saw South Mountain score five early runs and then hold on for the win. The second game was a little tighter with WNCC managing three hits but falling 6-0.
  • WNCC belts three home runs, tops Trinidad

    TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team belted three home runs, including a grand slam by Michael Felton in taking a 16-3 win over Trinidad State Junior College in an Empire Conference contest Saturday in Trinidad, Colorado. The two teams will battle again Sunday in a conference doubleheader before WNCC heads to Arizona for Spring Break games.

    TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball split a doubleheader with Trinidad State Junior College on Sunday in Empire Conference action. The Cougars won the 3-game series against the Trojans 2-1. After taking game one 16-3 on Saturday, the Cougars fell 4-2 in the first game on Sunday setting up the rubber game. The second game saw the Cougars score five times in the second inning and never looked back to the 8-4 win. The win moves the Cougars to third place in the Empire Conference at 4-4 and tied with Southeast Community College. WNCC is 5-12 overall. McCook leads the conference with a 6-3 record followed by Northeastern at 5-3.
  • WNCC baseball splits with NJC

    The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team received solid pitching from Kyler Harris and Trent Richter in game two to salvage a split of Empire Conference games with Northeastern Junior College Thursday afternoon at Cleveland Field. The first game saw WNCC open the game with a triple play, but NJC scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth to register the 4-3 win. The second game saw Harris and Richter hold NJC to just three runs while striking out a combined five for the 4-3 win.
  • WNCC falls to Lamar twice in late innings

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team lost leads late in dropping a doubleheader to Lamar Community College in Empire Conference action Sunday in Lamar, Colo. The first game saw WNCC record two home runs from Ethan “Q” Miller and Jayden Orozco, but Lamar came back with four runs in the sixth to take the 7-4 win. The second game saw Miller smack a 2-run home run, but Lamar scored three times in the Lopes’ final at bat to take the 3-2 win.
  • WNCC baseball earns big win over Lamar

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team scored 10 runs each in the sixth and seventh inning to post a commanding 22-7 win over Lamar Community College Saturday to open Empire Conference play in Lamar, Colorado. The 22 runs scored is only the sixth time in school history the Cougars have scored 20 or more runs in a game. The last time was when they scored 20 runs against Miles Community College in 2016. The record for runs in a game is 31 against McCook on May 9, 2003. The win was the first for the Cougars in conference play as they are now 1-0. WNCC is 2-8 overall on the season. The Cougars will face Lamar in a conference doubleheader on Sunday before returning home for a double-dip with Northeastern Junior College on Wednesday.
  • WNCC baseball drops two to Barton

    The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games to Barton Community College on Saturday to close out the four-game series. In the first game, WNCC managed just two hits in falling to the Cougars from Kansas 10-0. The second contest saw WNCC score three runs early, but Barton was too much in registering the 12-4 game two victory at Cleveland Field.
  • WNCC baseball team drops home games
    February 22, 2020
    The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Barton Community College in the Cougars’ home opener at Cleveland Field on Friday. The first game saw Barton score five times in the fourth to open a pitcher’s duel to earn the 7-0 game one victory. The second game, which was a 9-inning contest, saw WNCC jump on top 3-0 on a 3-run Orey Fricke home run, but Barton came back to score nine runs to take the 9-6 win.
  • WNCC tops Lamar for first win of season

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team received strong pitching and clutch hits to register a 2-1 win over Lamar Community College on Monday in Lamar, Colorado. Paul Panduro had five hitless innings before giving way to William Potter, who allowed no runs and just two hits to get the win. Panduro struck out five in his five innings of work, while Potter struck out three. Elliott McNeave picked up the save in his inning of work where he struck out two.
  • WNCC falls to Dodge City, New Mexico Institute
    February 16, 2020
    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team opened the season with two heart-breaking losses in the ABA JUCO Weekend powered by Five Tool Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Cougars scored two in the first in the opener against Dodge City Community College, but then saw Dodge City come back to earn an 8-3 win. The second game saw WNCC mount a late comeback but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars fell New Mexico Military 6-4.
  • WNCC baseball falls twice on Sunday

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team dropped two games at the ABA JUCO Weekend powered by Five Tool Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to close out the classic. WNCC allowed four runs in the sixth inning as New Mexico Military used that big inning to register a 10-4 win in the opening game. The Cougars then managed just three hits in an 8-2 loss to El Paso Community College to wrap up the classic.
  • WNCC baseball ready to open season this weekend

    The season didn’t end the way the Western Nebraska Community College wanted it to a year ago and this year’s team is anxious to go out and finish that unfinished business from a year ago. The Cougar team was one out from capturing their second Region IX title, but in the end, Lamar Community College came back to top WNCC in the first title game and then won the if-necessary game to earn the regional title.
  • Alliance’s DuBray signs with WNCC baseball

    Alliance’s Trevor DuBray always knew that he wanted to play baseball in college. He will get that opportunity after signing with Western Nebraska Community College on Tuesday. “I have been around them a long time. I met Coach [Mike] Jones when I was probably seven. They are good guys and I like the program,” he said. “It is beyond exciting to be playing college baseball. It has always been my dream and I can’t wait.”
  • WNCC baseball to hold evaluation camp Nov. 3

    Western Nebraska Community College baseball coach Mike Jones will hold a baseball evaluation camp on Sunday, Nov. 3 for 2020, 2021, and 2022 graduates. The evaluation camp will give the baseball player an evaluation of their baseball skills. WNCC baseball coaches will evaluate players and provide instruction on a variety of baseball skills, including but not limited to swing mechanics, bat speed, pro-agility, 30/60 dash, pitching mechanics and velocity, infield mechanics, and catching mechanics.
