WNCC signs 2017 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the YearJuly 25, 2019The 2017 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year Teddy Allen will be playing his sophomore year for Western Nebraska Community College after signing with the Cougar program this week. Allen, who averaged 30 points a game at Boys Town High School, spent two seasons at the Division I level. Allen said he is ready to suit up for the Cougars and try to lead them to the national tournament.

Kuxhausen signs with Division I McNeese StateApril 30, 2019Western Nebraska Community College’s Dru Kuxhausen is headed to the Division I level, living a dream of playing at the college’s highest level after signing with McNeese State University. Kuxhausen said he picked McNeese State because it gives him a chance to play away from home.

Scottsbluff's McCracken inks with men's basketballApril 25, 2019Scottsbluff’s Conner McCracken is hoping to be the third straight Bearcat basketball player to play for Western Nebraska Community College and then go to a Division I school, following in the footsteps of former Bearcats Trent Harris and Dru Kuxhausen. McCracken said it was an easy decision to pick WNCC. “it is big for me to stay in town. I think that is one of the biggest reasons why I stayed here,” McCracken said. “I get to be close to family and I get to play a few more years in my hometown where I can have all the support that I had stay here and to be able to watch me. With the success they have, it obviously a big factor.”

WNCC’s Green named second team all-AmericanApril 11, 2019For the second straight year, Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball has a NJCAA Second Team All-American after Jervay Green was awarded All-American status earlier this week. Green follows in the footsteps of Vinnie Shahid, who was a Second Team All-American a year ago. Green said it is an honor, but it couldn’t have happened without his teammates.

WNCC falls to Casper in semifinalsMarch 09, 2019SHERIDAN, Wyo. - A furious rally by the Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team came up just short in a 104-97 setback to Casper College during the semifinals of the Region IX Tournament on Friday night in Sheridan, Wyoming. Casper moves into the championship and will face Sheridan College Saturday night with the winner advancing to the national tournament. Sheridan picked up a 102-97 win over North Platte Community College

WNCC men top EWC, move into semisMarch 08, 2019SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team put four players in double figures in registering an 83-62 win over Eastern Wyoming College in the quarterfinals of the men’s Region IX Tournament in Sheridan, Wyoming, Thursday afternoon. The Cougars will face No. 6 Casper College in the semifinals on Friday. Casper earned an 84-61 win over Trinidad State Junior College.

WNCC men aiming for back-to-back regional titlesMarch 06, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball goal all season is to repeat as Region IX champions. That trek will being Thursday at the Region IX tournament in Sheridan, Wyoming, when the South No. 1 seed Cougars battle Eastern Wyoming College at 3 p.m. at the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome on the campus of Sheridan College. The Cougars, 23-7, and the Lancers, 11-19, are no strangers to each other as the two Highway 26 teams will look to advance to the semifinals on Friday.

WNCC men are South sub-region champsFebruary 27, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team brought the Region IX South title back home to Cougar Palace Tuesday night. The Cougars earned the title with a hard-fought win over North Platte Community College 82-76 in a game that saw WNCC lead from start to finish and saw sophomore Bryce Sanchious hit four clutch free throws down the stretch to give the Cougars the sub-region win and a bye into next week’s Region IX tournament March 7-9 in Sheridan, Wyoming. The win moves the Cougars to 23-7 overall but more importantly, they sent the six sophomores – Jervay Green, Dru Kxhausen, Bryce Sanchious, Martin Roub, Henry Tanksley, and Marquis White – off to regionals in a win in the six’s final game at Cougar Palace.

WNCC, North Platte set for key sub-region contestFebruary 25, 2019It comes down to just one game between Western Nebraska Community College and North Platte Community College men’s basketball teams Tuesday night at Cougar Palace. The importance of the Region IX South Sub-region contest is simple, the winner of the game wins the South sub-region and will get a bye into the Region IX tournament March 7-9 in Sheridan, Wyoming, while the loser will get second place and host McCook Community College on Saturday in a Region IX first-round contest to advance into the Final Eight of the Region IX tournament.

WNCC men earn road win over OteroFebruary 23, 2019LAJUNTA, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team got 52 points from Jervay Green and Martin Roub in earning a 102-91 in a Region IX South Sub-region game Friday night in LaJunta, Colorado. The win keeps the Cougars on top of the conference standings at 9-1 with two games left. North Platte Community College, who beat Lamar Friday night 88-59, is in second at 9-2. WNCC, 22-6, will face Trinidad State Junior College on Saturday in Trinidad and then return home for sophomore recognition night on Tuesday in a big game against North Platte that will decide the South winner.

WNCC men fall to TrinidadFebruary 23, 2019TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team scored just 31 second-half points and couldn’t stop a Trinidad State Junior College team that buried 18 3-pointers in a 96-74 South sub-region loss Saturday afternoon. WNCC drops to 22-7 on the season and 9-2 in South sub-region play. The Cougars and North Platte are tied for first in the sub-region, setting up a crucial battle on Tuesday when North Platte comes to WNCC for a 7:30 p.m. contest with the winner earning the No. 1 seed from the South and a first-round bye in the regional tournament while the loser will get the second seed and play Saturday in the first round of the regional tournament at home.

WNCC men top NJC for 21st victoryFebruary 17, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team overcame a halftime deficit outscoring Northeastern Junior College 50-35 in the second half to capture a 82-70 Region IX South subregion win Saturday afternoon at Cougar Palace. The moves the Cougars to 8-1 in conference play and 21-6 overall. It was WNCC’s fifth straight win.

Kuxhausen's free throws lift WNCC over LamarFebruary 16, 2019Dru Kuxhausen hit four free throws with under 10 seconds to play to lift the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team to a come-from-behind Region IX South sub-region 81-77 win over Lamar Community College Friday evening at Cougar Palace. The win was the Cougars 20th of the season but more importantly, keeps WNCC atop the South sub-region standings with a 7-1 record.

WNCC men run past EWC 96-70February 12, 2019In what was an electric atmosphere with both student sections providing energy, the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team received 23 points from Henry Tanksley in outscoring EWC 35-13 in the final 10 minutes for the 96-70 win Monday evening at Cougar Palace.

Kuxhausen's 30 helps WNCC regain first place in SouthFebruary 06, 2019MCCOOK – Dru Kuxhausen scored 30 points and the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball topped McCook Community College 91-85 in a Region IX South Sub-region game Tuesday in McCook. The win moves the Cougars to 18-6 overall but more importantly, the Cougars move back into first place of the South Sub-region with a 6-1 record after Northeastern Junior College topped North Platte Community College 80-70 on Tuesday.

WNCC men comeback to top TrinidadFebruary 04, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team need a strong second half to earn an 80-73 South Sub-region win over Trinidad State Junior College Sunday afternoon at Cougar Palace. The Cougars, who trailed 43-34 at halftime, shot 55 percent in the second half while holding the Trojans to 32 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes. WNCC head coach Cory Fehringer said for his team to play the defense that they did in the second half shows a lot.

North Platte takes down WNCCJanuary 26, 2019NORTH PLATTE – The North Platte Community College men’s basketball team won their 10th straight as they withstood a late charge by Western Nebraska Community College in earning an 81-74 Region IX South sub-region victory Friday night in North Platte. The loss drops WNCC to 16-6 overall and 4-1 in sub-region play. North Platte moves to 15-1 and 4-0 in sub-region The contest was a battle between the South sub-region leaders. There were 12 lead changes and four ties in the contest.

WNCC men shoot past McCookJanuary 23, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball buried 19 3-pointers in rolling to a 123-86 win over McCook Community College Tuesday night at Cougar Palace in a Region IX South sub-region contest. It was WNCC’s 16th win of the season but more importantly, moves the Cougars to 4-0 in the sub-region. The 123 points scored was highlighted by 19 3-pointers on the day. The Cougars shot 57 percent from beyond the arc. Dru Kuxhausen and Martin Roub each tallied six 3-pointers, while Jervay Green and TJ O’Connor each had three treys.

WNCC men stop NJC 97-88January 19, 2019STERLING, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team received 33 points from Dru Kuxhausen as the Cougars captured a 97-88 Region IX South Subregion win over Northeastern Junior College at Sterling, Colorado, Friday night. The win was the Cougars 14th of the season and moves WNCC to 2-0 in the South subregion. WNCC will look to go 3-0 in the subregion when they travel to Lamar Community College on Saturday before hosting McCook Community College on Tuesday.

WNCC men pick up sub-region win over Otero 103-87January 12, 2019The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team never trailed and rolled to a 103-87 Region IX South sub-region win over Otero Junior College Friday night at Cougar Palace. The 23rd-ranked Cougars, who moved to 13-5 on the season used a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring with five in double figures in stopping a 3-game losing skid.

WNCC falls to LCCC on a buzzer-beaterJanuary 07, 2019CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Jervay Green scored 40 points Western Nebraska Community College but it wasn’t enough as Tyrese Potoma hit a buzzer-beater to give the Golden Eagles a 93-90 win over the 23rd-ranked Cougars Monday night in Cheyenne, Wyoming. WNCC drops its third straight and moves to 12-5 on the season. WNCC battled back from 8- and 9-point deficits late, but the Golden Eagles had the final shot to get the win.

Green sets school record, WNCC men fall to Iowa LakesDecember 16, 2018OTTUMWA, Iowa – Jervay Green set a school record with 51 points, but the No. 14 Western Nebraska Community College men fell to Division II, No. 16 Iowa Lakes Community College 102-93 in the second day of the Hyvee Classic in Ottumwa, Iowa. Green’s 51 points breaks a school record that has stood for over 50 years as the University of Nebraska recruit became the first Cougar basketball player to score 50 points in a game. The previous record of 49 was held by Billy Stewart on December 12, 1965, and Eric Gore at the national tournament against San Jacinto College in 1990.

WNCC men fall to Indian HillsDecember 15, 2018OTTUMWA, Iowa – In a battle of Top 20 teams, the No. 14 Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team dropped a 94-86 contest to No. 18 Indian Hills Community College in the Hyvee Classic in Ottumwa, Iowa, on Friday. The loss snapped a 9-game winning streak for the Cougars. Included in the win streak was an 89-81 win over Indian Hills at Cougar Palace over Thanksgiving.

The win moves the Cougars to 12-2 on the season with two games left in the first semester.

WNCC tops Sheridan in battle to Top 25 teamsDecember 08, 2018WILLISTON, N.D. – In a battle of Top 25 ranked teams, the No. 16 Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team received 26 points from Jervay Green and held No. 24 Sheridan College to just 42 second half points in earning a 101-88 win over the Generals Friday in Williston, North Dakota. The win was the Cougars eighth straight victory. WNCC is now 11-2 on the season.

The win was the Cougars seventh straight and moves the Cougars to 10-2 on the season.

WNCC men hang on to top EWCDecember 01, 2018TORRINGTON, Wyo. – The No. 14 Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball received 46 points from Dru Kuxhausen and Jervay Green in earning a hard-fought 73-68 win over Eastern Wyoming College Friday evening at Torrington, Wyoming. Green finished the game with 24 points, including scoring 16 in the second half, while Kuxhausen finished with 22 points.

WNCC men shoot past Rainy RiverNovember 25, 2018Dru Kuxhausen and Martin Roub combined for 53 points to help lead the Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team to a 104-83 win over Rainy River Community College in the final game of the Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff. The win was the Cougars fifth straight and moves the Cougars to 8-2 on the season. Kuxhausen ignited for a game-high 27 points. He sank four 3-pointers and finished 7 of 8 at the free-throw line.

WNCC men earn overtime thriller over Indian HillsNovember 24, 2018It was a battle of Top 15 ranked teams and the No. 14 Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team earned an overtime-thriller 89-81 win over No. 12 Indian Hills Community College in the first day of the Thanksgiving Classic at Cougar Palace Friday. The men’s contest was a battle where the Cougars battled back from a 14-point, second-half deficit to force overtime tied at 77-77. WNCC then controlled the extra five minutes, outscoring the Warriors 12-4 for their seventh win of the season.

Cougar men, women home over ThanksgivingNovember 22, 2018Anyone tired doing Black Friday shopping this weekend or tired of watching football on television, there is another option for families over Thanksgiving Break – WNCC basketball. The WNCC men’s and women’s basketball teams will be home over the Thanksgiving holidays when they host the Thanksgiving Classic Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24. There will be four games each day with eight teams involved in the 2-day Thanksgiving Classic and plenty of teams with winning records.
