WNCC men take out Western Wyoming 4-1

Four different Cougars netted goals as the Western Nebraska Community College men's soccer team earned a 4-1 win over Western Wyoming Community College Saturday afternoon at the Landers Soccer Complex.

The Cougar men have now won four of their last five matches. The win was also huge as the Cougars rebounded from a 6-0 loss to Laramie County Community College on Friday.

WNCC head coach Todd Rasnic said his team played well and distributed the ball.

"They played great today. They came out and they were disciplined, and they kept the ball," Rasnic said. "They moved well. We had players that were actually finishing their opportunities. Overall they played very good."

A big thing in the win was four different players netted scores on the day, which was something that showed the offensive potential of this team.

"We were dangerous in a lot of different areas, so I think that is a good thing for us," Rasnic said. "It has been tough year and we are really trying to grow as a team and we are moving in the right direction. We still have a lot of work left to do. We have won the last three out of four games, but the games that are the higher level matches we are struggling in. We really need to get more disciplined as a team to perform better towards the end of the season."

While the Cougars scored four goals, all of the scoring came in the final 50 minutes of play. The first 40 minutes was a defensive contest. That was when Hector Salgado got defensive, stole the ball from a Western Wyoming, player and dribbled to the net and planted it soundly into the back of the net with 4:13 left in the first half. That was the score as the two teams entered intermission.

The second half saw plenty of scoring. WNCC went up 3-0 as Matheus Lima took a pass from Bernardo Torres off a corner kick and headed the ball into the net with 32:33 to play. The Cougars led 3-0 seven minutes later as Omar Sissoko scored on a beautiful shot after taking a pass from Gabriel Saturino.

Western Wyoming spoiled the shutout when Western Wyoming scored with 13:26 to play on a goal by Kamden Carroll.

The Cougars added another goal with 7:39 to play as Torres picked up his second assist of the match when he found Vinicius Viana to make it 4-1.

WNCC outshot Western Wyoming 16-2. The Cougars also had six corner kicks to just three for the Mustangs.

Ruam Barbosa had three saves in net.

WNCC, 7-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play, will be back in action next weekend when they hit the road to face Central Wyoming College on Friday and Northwest College on Saturday.
