  • Incoming WNCC softball player Lexi Butterfield raises funds for opposing softball team

    Incoming Western Nebraska Community College softball player Lexi Butterfield’s heart was golden recently back home in Utah. Butterfield, who is a pitcher and utility player for Lehi High School in Utah, took it upon herself to help raise funds to help the Orem High School softball team after their field was vandalized with sayings and vulgar graphics the last weekend in May. Butterfield said she felt compelled to help out the Orem softball team. “With what happened to Orem, it started with me and my mom (Codi Butterfield) talking about how could someone do this and then thinking I wanted to do something for them so they know the Lehi community is there for them,” she said. “It was very special to me cuz I wanted the Orem girls to know that I was there for them and wanted to help in any way I could.”
  • WNCC softball team captures team GPA for 12th time in 16 years

                    Western Nebraska Community College’s annual all-campus award ceremony had to go virtual this year to announce the winners.                 When everything was set and done, the WNCC softball team had plenty of honors. Sidnee Hogan, a sophomore from South Jordan, Utah, was a part of three of four honors that were bestowed upon the softball team.                 Hogan and the entire team earned one of the bigger honors, capturing the Athletic Team GPA honor. The team has won this award 12 of the last 16 years.
  • WNCC softball falls twice at McCook

    MCCOOK – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team dropped a conference doubleheader to McCook on Thursday. The first game saw WNCC come back to tie the game in the sixth, but McCook scored the walk-off run to earn the 9-8 victory. The second game saw McCook plate xx early runs and then held on for the 8-3 win. WNCC, 0-2 in conference play and 4-10 overall, will return to action Saturday when they travel to Lamar Community College for a conference doubleheader.
  • WNCC softball falls to Western Texas

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team couldn’t get the big hit when they needed in dropping a doubleheader to Western Texas College Saturday at Volunteer Field. The first game saw Western Texas get 12 hits and scored in five of the six innings in registering the 14-2 win. The second game saw WNCC outhit Western Texas 14-12 including a 4-for-4 game by Sidnee Hogan, but the Westerners scored five, sixth-inning runs to earn the 10-5 win.
  • WNCC softball splits with Western Texas

    It was a night and day type of doubleheader for the Western Nebraska Community College softball team in its home opener Friday at Volunteer Field Western Texas College. In the first game, the Cougars managed just one hit while Western Texas tallied 10 and 10 runs capturing the 10-0 win. The second game was totally opposite with the Cougars finishing with 11 hits and Lexi Parker tossed six strong innings in giving the Cougars the 9-1 win.

    SNYDER, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team received a nice pitching performance from Emma Glawson and clutch hits from Maizie Clark, Sidnee Hogan, and MaKenzie Bakel in registering a 4-1 second-game win over Western Texas College Wednesday in Texas. The opening game saw WNCC score first and then give up a few runs in the middle innings in falling to the Westerners 6-1.
  • WNCC softball splits with No. 6 Howard College
    February 17, 2020
    BIG SPRINGS, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team split a doubleheader with No. 6 Howard College on Monday in Big Springs, Texas. The first game saw Emma Glawson and Sam Davis record home runs in lifting the Cougars to a 5-4 win over the previously undefeated Howard team. The second game saw Howard record an 11-3 victory.
  • WNCC softball splits with Midland
    February 16, 2020
    MIDLAND, Texas – Cortney Rhees had two home runs and the Western Nebraska Community College softball team scored 11 runs in the final two innings to earn a 14-11 game one win over Midland College Saturday in Midland, Texas. WNCC couldn’t get the sweep over Midland as the Chaparrals scored four, sixth-inning runs to claim the 8-6 game two win.
  • WNCC softball drops games to Odessa
    February 14, 2020
    ODESSA, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team finally got on the field to play and game and dropped a doubleheader to Odessa College Friday afternoon in Odessa, Texas. WNCC got behind early before falling 8-2 in the opening contest. The second game saw WNCC jump out to a 2-0 lead before falling 6-2.
  • WNCC softball ready to open season Thursday

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team had a week delay in its season opener, but things look good for the Cougar softball team to open the season Feb. 13 at Clarendon College. The Cougars will spend a week in Texas playing games beginning with Clarendon. After that, the team will have a Valentine’s Day contest at Odessa College followed by Midland College on Feb. 15, Howard College on Feb. 17, and Western Texas on Feb. 19.
  • WNCC softball signs five during early signing period

    Western Nebraska Community College softball coach Katelyn Groves signed five players during the early signing period in November. Inking letter of intents in a ceremony at WNCC were Isabelle Coffman and Ashley Quinn of Aurora, Colorado; Bailey Blanchard of Elizabeth, Colorado; and Lexi Butterfield of Lehi, Utah. Also signing a letter was Chloe Cronquist of Blackfoot, Idaho.
  • Trick or Treat with WNCC softball and baseball on Halloween

    Area youngsters can trick or treat with Western Nebraska Community College softball and baseball players on Halloween at Cougar Palace from 5:30 – 7 p.m. with candy and games available during the night. Trick or treating will run in conjunction with the last WNCC volleyball match when the 17th-ranked Cougars take on McCook Community College beginning at 6 p.m. in sophomore recognition night on Halloween The trick or treating will be a fun experience for the little ones to interact with local athletes and get out of the cold. This year’s softball players will also be in Halloween costume for the event. Admission to the volleyball match is also free for everyone on the night.
  • WNCC softball team takes part in International Walk to School Day

    International Walk or Bike to School Day was held Oct. 2 and the Western Nebraska Community College softball team took part in the early morning festivities by walking youngsters at Westmoor Elementary in Scottsbluff to school. International Walk or Bike to School Day is celebrated the first Wednesday of October and the Cougar softball team has been a yearly participant in walking kids to school on the October day at various elementary schools in Scottsbluff and Gering.
  • WNCC will hold softball camp Oct. 6
    September 30, 2019
    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will hold a softball camp for youngsters in the 8th grade and below in a fun, learning environment. The camp will run from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday and will be held at Volunteer Field, located behind the Cleveland Field baseball field. Cost of the camp is $35 and includes a picture for players to sign and a picture of participant with team. Each participant needs to bring a glove and water bottle.
