T-Birds Suffer First Loss this Season

No. 5 NMJC women's basketball hit their first roadblock of the season against Western Nebraska in a 63-54 loss Saturday afternoon.

The Thunderbirds trailed at the break for the first time all season 35-30. NMJC cut into the lead by the end of the third quarter 43-39 but it wasn't enough as the Cougars outscored the Thunderbirds 20-15 in the fourth to win 63-54. 

Sophomore guard Madina Camara was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds Saturday afternoon with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, while adding five rebounds and four steals. 

Guard Delma Zita tallied nine points, five rebounds, and three steals. Forward Danna Grenald scored nine points in the contest but was unable to finish the game due to an injury.

Guard Duda Raimundo notched nine points and six rebounds in the loss. Forward Bianca Juzzo finished with six points, six rebounds, and two steals. 

The Thunderbirds had a tough night shooting going 23-for-65 (35.4%) from the field and 3-of-20 (15%) from beyond the arc. The T-Birds forced 17 turnovers in the loss to the Cougars. 

The T-Birds fall to 6-1 on the year. NMJC will play Bethany JV Monday, Nov. 28 at 12 p.m. CDT in Lindsborg, Kan.
