MCC Softball sweeps doubleheader over Western Nebraska

SCOTTSBLUFF -- Sophomore Taryn Jenkins (Aldergrove, British Columbia) slugged three home runs and drove in eight runs in Game 1 Saturday in a 20-5 win, and the Indians rode a nine-run third inning in Game 2 and got a home run by freshman Ashland Baca (Byers, Colo.) to sweep Cougars on the afternoon 15-7.
Taryn Jenkins finished the day five-for-five with 10 RBIs. She entered the game 14th in the nation in driving in runs. She and Baca are now tied for the team lead in home runs with 18 each.

Freshman Taylor Thein (West Branch, Iowa) hit a home run in the first game and drove in eight runs in the doubleheader. Sophomores Sidney Sansregret (Surrey, British Columbia) and Emily Arp (McCook) both had five hits on the afternoon.

MCC improves to 33-9 overall 15-5 record in the Region IX standings. Western Nebraska falls to 4-16 and 8-21 overall.

The two teams conclude the four-game set Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (CT)

GAME 1 McCook CC 20, Western Nebraska 5: The Lady Indians scored at least twice in all five innings and out-hit the Lady Cougars 21-5.
Taryn Jenkins hit a two-run home run in the first inning, a two-run homer in the second, a sacrifice fly in the third, a two-run homer in the fourth and drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to finish three-for-three with eight RBIs.
MCC also got a three-run home run from freshman Taylor Thein (West Branch, Iowa) in the six-run second inning. She finished with a four-for-four game, scoring four runs and driving in five.
Sophomores Sidney Sansregret (Surrey, British Columbia) and Camryn Laird (Pueblo, Colo.) both had three-hit games. Sophomores Alice Midiri (Condove, Italy) and Emily Arp (McCook) both had two-hit games.
Anna Wilcox (sophomore, Victoria, British Columbia) led the way in the pitching circle, hurling the first three innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and striking out four. Freshman Lana Armsbury (Omaha Westside) pitched two scoreless innings of relief allowing two earned runs and two hits, one walk and one strikeout.

GAME 2 McCook CC 15, Western Nebraska 7: MCC broke up a 1-1 game by scoring nine times in the third inning on five singles and six Cougar walks. Sidney Sansregret had a pair of two-run singles in the inning, her second one put MCC up 10-1.
Ashland Baca hammered a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Lady Indians a 13-6 lead. An inning later Taylor Thein doubled in freshman Isabel Lozano (Greeley, Colo.) to make it a 14-7 game. Taryn Jenkins hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Thein.
Freshman Avery O'Neil (Ellsworth, Wis.) pitched the first four innings, giving up eight hits, walking two and striking out seven. Anna Wilcox came on in relief in the fifth and went two innings surrendering one run on three hits and a strikeout.
Sansregret and Emily Arp both had three-hit games. Jennkins and freshman Charlyee Ortiz (Maud, Okla.) both had two-hit games.
