  • Gering’s Spreier returns home to play soccer at WNCC

    Gering’s Brittney Spreier took a year off of playing sports during her freshman year at Chadron State College. That year off was enough to fuel her appetite to continue playing, especially when she came home to visit and saw former Gering and WNCC soccer play Sydney Heimbouch. That and knowing that two of her former high school teammates Destiny Mueller and Taylor Elsen are also going to play for WNCC next year, helped her make the decision. “I am from Gering and I really missed home. It was only an hour away but I still really missed it,” she said. “I went to some Gering High School games and ran into Sydney Heimbouch and she convinced me to play.”

    Destiny Mueller and Tayler Elsen, two of Gering seniors that led the Cougars to a 10-win season this season, are taking their soccer skills to the next level after signing to play at Western Nebraska Community College. The two seniors said they picked WNCC because they could be together for another two seasons.
  • WNCC’s Nayara, Vieira earn women’s soccer all-region honors

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team placed two players on this year’s All-Region team that was released recently. Thais Nayara, a freshman from Brazil, earned first team honors as a defender, while Carol Vieira, a freshman from Brazil, garnered second team honors as a midfielder.

                    ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team played tough but fell in the quarterfinals of the Region IX playoffs 3-1 to Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Saturday afternoon.

                    Western Nebraska Community College’s Laramie Lake made one of the biggest saves of her goalkeeping career late in the second overtime of the Cougar’s match with Northeastern Junior College Wednesday at Landers Soccer Complex..                 The freshman from Cheyenne, Wyoming, with 3:34 to play in double overtime, made a save on a penalty kick to help the Cougars earn a 2-2 tie with the Plainswomen in a Region IX South Conference contest.
  • WNCC soccer teams fall to Otero

                    There was plenty of first-half scoring and plenty of defense in the second half on the day between the Western Nebraska Community College and Otero Junior College soccer teams in Region IX South action Saturday at Landers Soccer Complex.                 The women’s contest saw Otero score three goals in a 10-minute span in the first half to earn a 3-2 win over the Cougar women.                 The men’s contest was just as close as Otero scored two goals in the first half and then held off the Cougar men for a 2-1 win.

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team put together a strong defensive effort, recording a late goal to earn a 2-2 double overtime tie with Gillette College on Saturday at the Landers Soccer Complex. The Cougars, who entered the contest on a 2-match winning streak, received a goal from Thais Nayara with 11 minutes remaining to force overtime.

    STERLING, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team received two goals from freshman Thais Nayara in running to a 3-2 Region IX South win over Northeastern Junior College Wednesday afternoon in Sterling, Colorado. While the women picked up a win, the Cougar men weren’t as fortunate. NJC scored five, second-half goals in registering the 6-0 win.

    GILLETTE, Wyo. – Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer player Laramie Lake had a strong showing in net, saving 11 shots, but the Gillette College Pronghorns snuck in two shots to capture the 2-0 win over the Cougars Sunday in Gillette, Wyoming. The loss came a day after the Cougar women picked up a 3-0 win over Northwest College.

    GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer captured their first win of the season with a shutout 3-0 win over Region IX North opponent Northwest College in Gillette, Wyoming. The win was a solid outing for the Cougars.
  • WNCC soccer teams open season Wednesday in Utah

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s and women’s soccer team will open the season Wednesday when they travel to face Snow College and Salt Lake Community College in contests that should test the Cougar teams against national powers. Both Cougar teams do look to be improved from a year ago and they will need every ounce of energy when they open against Snow College on Wednesday. The women will play at 1 p.m. followed the men’s game at 3 p.m. in Ephraim, Utah.
  • WNCC to host week-long soccer camps July 23-27

    Scottsbluff High School graduate Morgan Smith has attended the Western Nebraska Community College soccer camp for at least 10 years. During those 10 years, Smith has elevated her soccer skills to where she will continue her playing in college. Smith, who played the last two years at WNCC before graduating in May, will continue her soccer playing at the 4-year level at Black Hills State College next season. Smith said the WNCC soccer camp has helped her in many respects.
