Doug Jones is in his 16th year as the athletic trainer for all of WNCC's 7 sports teams.  In addition to being the athletic trainer for the Cougars, Doug is also a faculty member in the Social Science and Human Performance Division at WNCC, teaching Physical Education and Exercise Science Classes.

Doug received his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Creighton University in Omaha, NE.  He then received his Master of Science degree in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis in Sports Administration from Fort Hays State Univeristy in Fort Hays, KS.  Doug is a Certified Atheltic Trainer (ATC) through the Board of Certification, as well as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Nebraska.  He is also certified in First Aid/CPR/AED.  Before coming to Western Nebraska, Doug was an assistant athletic trainer at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE.

Doug has served in numerous positions and served on many committees as an athletic trainer and instructor, previously serving as the Clinical Coordinator for Athletic Training Education at Nebraska Wesleyan Univeristy, Medical Coordinator for the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship, and currently is the NJCAA representative on the National Athletic Trainers' Association Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine.  He has been on the WNCC HLC Persistance and Completion Academy Committee, WNCC United Way fundraising committee, WNCC facilities management committee, and is currently serving on the WNCC safety committee, as well as president-elect of the WNCC Faculty Assembly.

Doug has been active in the comminuty, having coached the Gering Legion Baseball team for 6 seasons, winning the 2012 Nebraska Class B American Legion State Championship.  He has also coached in the Gering Girls Softball Association summer league, been involved with the Gering American Legion Baseball board and the Gering Organized Baseball board.  Doug also served as the athletic trainer for the Wesern Nebraska Pioneers, a collegiate summer baseball league in Gering for 3 seasons.

Doug lives in Gering with his wife Sherry, and they have 2 daughters, Autumn and Alannah.
