Golden Eagles Finish Lancer Invite 1-3

TORRINGTON, WY - The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (5-5) finished the Lancer Invitational 1-3, beating No. 13 Salt Lake before losing to No. 11 Northeastern, North Platte, and No. 8 Western Nebraska.

The Golden Eagles opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over Salt Lake. After losing the first set 25-17, LCCC went on to win the next three sets, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-20. 

Kyle Childers (Parker, Colo.) recorded 14 kills while Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho) tallied 38 assists.

LCCC faced Northeastern in the second game of the invite, falling 3-2 to the Plainswomen. The Golden Eagles lost the first set 25-19 before winning the second set 25-22. LCCC took a 2-1 lead by winning the third set 25-22 before the Plainswomen forced a fifth set with a 25-14 win in the fourth set. The Golden Eagles fell short in the fifth set, losing 15-12.

Childers finished with a team-high 15 kills while Emma Bonney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished with 14 digs.

On the final day of the Invite, the Golden Eagles lost both matches 3-0, falling to both North Platte and Western Nebraska.

Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo.) recorded eight digs in the loss to North Platte while tallying 14 kills in the loss to Western Nebraska.

The Golden Eagles head to Sterling, Colo. Monday evening to take on Northeastern at 6:00.
