Men’s Soccer: CCC Splits with Otero and WNCC

The Central Community College men's soccer team lost at home against Otero Junior College on Friday and then rebounded for a win over Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday. A recap of both games is below.

Otero 5 CCC 0

The Rattlers scored all five goals in the first half, while the Raiders were unable to break the tough Otero defense.

"From what we saw from Otero, they're going to be one of the top teams at least in this region of the country and maybe the whole nation," said CCC head coach Hawken Hanna.

CCC 3 WNCC 0

The Raiders bounced back with a 3-0 shutout of the Cougars.

Diego Escobar put CCC on the board with a goal in the 35th minute off the assist of Marc Ackerman for a 1-0 lead. WNCC was unable to match the score and CCC held the one-goal advantage at halftime

In the 68th minute, Ivan Lopez made it a 2-0 lead as he scored off the Fernando Alves assist. Ackerman added the final exclamation point with a goal in the 88th minute as he found the back of the net with Dayethan Nelson assisting for the 3-0 win.

"We had a lot of good energy and put the pressure on them most of the game," said Hanna. "I don't think we've had too many good results against Western Nebraska in the short history we've had with them, so it was good."

Hanna particularly praised CCC defenseman Antonio Jiminez, who served as netminder and got the shutout. Jiminez subbed in goal as COVID and other health issues have taken a toll on CCC goalies.

The 1-1 Raiders will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, on Monday for a 6 p.m. game against Morningside College.
