  • Five WNCC men’s soccer players earn All-Region honors

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team was well-represented on the Region IX All-Region team that was released last week. The Cougar men garnered two First-Team selections as red-shirt freshman Eduardo Oliveira earned honors as a forward while sophomore Samuel Acosta captured first team honors as a defenders. The Cougars had one Second Team All-Region member as sophomore Pablo Dominguez earned a spot as a mid-fielder. The Cougars had two honorable mention recipients as freshman Isrrael Rodriguez earned recognition as a mid-fielder while sophomore Hernan Burdiles was selected as a goalkeeper.
  • WNCC men’s soccer falls in semifinals to Otero

    LAJUNTA, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team came to a close in the semifinals of the Region IX tournament after falling to Otero College 3-0 on a cold Saturday afternoon day. WNCC finishes the season at 8-5-3 while Otero advances to the championship next Saturday to face Casper College. Casper defeated Northwest College 1-0. The Region IX women’s soccer championship will pit the No. 3 and four seeds against each other when No. 3 Laramie County faces No. 4 Otero College in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Casper fell to Otero on penalty kicks 4-2. LCCC topped Western Wyoming 1-0 in overtime.
  • WNCC tops LCCC in playoff action, face Otero in the semifinals

                    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Region IX playoffs with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Laramie County Community College Saturday afternoon at the Landers Soccer Complex in Scottsbluff.                 WNCC, 8-4-3 overall, advances to play No. 1 seed Otero College this weekend in the semifinals. The other first-round contest had Casper College earning a 2-0 win over Northeastern Junior College. Casper will travel to play No. 2 Northwest College.                 Lucas Ovalle, who had the second goal for the Cougars which proved to be the game winner, said this was a big win for his Cougar team.
  • WNCC soccer teams ready for post-season, WNCC men host LCCC on Saturday

    After intense competition in September and October, the Western Nebraska Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams will be in post-season action this weekend with first-round contests. The Cougar men will open the post-season with a home first-round contest on Saturday. WNCC, 7-4-3 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play, earned the right to host after topping Laramie County Community College 1-0 on a Eduardo Oliveira penalty kick over the weekend.
  • WNCC tops LCCC 1-0, earns home first-round playoff game

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team came away with a big win on Saturday that helped the Cougars earn a first-round home playoff match this weekend. The Cougars played strong defense and got a penalty kick from Eduardo Oliveira in the second half to top Laramie County Community College 1-0 at Landers Soccer Complex. It has been nine years since WNCC has beaten the Golden Eagles and Saturday’s win changed the seeding of the Region IX Playoffs. WNCC, who was slated to travel for the first-round, earned a home-field match and the loss cost LCCC a bye and dropped them to a first-round road contest.
  • WNCC men fall to No. 1 Northeast

    NORFOLK – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team hit the road for a Wednesday afternoon contest against Northeast Community College in Norfolk and battled the undefeated and NJCAA Division II top-ranked team to the end before falling 3-0. Northeast entered the contest at 15-0 and had their hands full against a determined Cougar team. The Hawks held a slim 1-0 lead at halftime.
  • WNCC men tie Otero on Saturday

    The Otero College men’s soccer team came into Saturday Region IX conference showdown with Western Nebraska Community College ranked 13th in the NJCAA national polls with a 11-0-2 record. The Cougars stymied the Otero offense and registered a 0-0 tie against the Rattlers to move to 6-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play with one conference contest left on October 14 at home against Laramie County Community College. The words of advice from assistant coach Eseah Ingram to his team afterwards was to keep their head high because they might not have scored any goals, but they didn’t allow any either.
  • WNCC men fall to Lamar 4-3

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team’s second half comeback came up a little short as the Lamar Community College men’s soccer team posted a 4-3 Region IX conference win Saturday in Lamar, Colorado. The Cougars fell behind the 8-ball early to the Runnin’ Lopes, trailing 4-0 early in the second half. Lamar led 3-0 at halftime as the Lopes Sebastian Ortega-Que scored 11 minutes into the game to make it 1-0. Lamar made it 2-0 two minutes later as Jose Soto scored. Lamar made it 3-0 when Adani Hassan scored in the 21st minute. After that, neither team scored as Lamar had the 3-0 halftime lead.
  • WNCC, NJC men play to a tie

    STERLING, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College and Northeastern Junior College men’s soccer teams battled back and forth on the soccer pitch Friday in a Region IX conference showdown in Sterling, Colorado. After one half, neither team scored and in the second half each team netted a goal as the teams settled for a 1-1 tie. The tie moves the Cougars to 5-2-2- overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. NJC moves to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in conference play.
  • WNCC men top Gillette, fall to Casper

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team split a pair of Region IX conference matches over the weekend. On Friday, WNCC was shutout as Casper earned the 1-0 win when the Thunderbirds scored in the 81st minutes on a goal by Jules Foll to earn the win.
  • WNCC men’s soccer captures win over Central
    September 09, 2023
    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team battled from a first-half deficit to capture a come-from-behind win over Central Wyoming College 5-3 in a Region IX conference game on Saturday at the Landers Soccer Complex. WNCC moves to 4-1-1 on the season but more importantly are 2-0 in conference play. The Cougars will have next weekend off and won’t return to competitive action until September 22 and 23 when they travel to face Casper and Gillette College. WNCC head coach Todd Rasnic said the team played well after a slow start that saw WNCC trail 3-1 to the Rustlers.
  • WNCC men score six goals in win over Northwest

    Eduardo Oliveira scored two goals and the Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team captured their third straight victory with a 6-1 Region IX Conference win over Northwest College at Landers Soccer Complex Friday afternoon. The win moves the Cougars to 1-0 in the conference and more important 3-1-1 overall as they enter another conference game on Saturday when Central Wyoming College comes to Scottsbluff for a 3:30 contest.
  • WNCC soccer teams open conference season at home

    The Western Nebraska Community College soccer teams will open the conference portion of their schedule this weekend at home when they play back-to-back contests on Friday and Saturday at the Landers Soccer Complex. The Cougars women and men will start the conference portion of their schedule on Friday against Northwest College followed by a conference game against Central Wyoming College on Saturday. The women’s matches are slated for 1 p.m. starts with the men’s contests to start roughly around 3:30 p.m. The conference games are doubly important this year as not only will it determine the seeding for the Region IX playoffs, but the winner (or the higher seed) will get to host the semifinals and finals of the Region IX tournament. So, if WNCC wants to host regionals, these conference games are important.
  • WNCC men capture second straight victory

    CASPER, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team received goals from three different players as the Cougars downed Central Wyoming College 3-2 in a non-conference contest Monday in Casper, Wyoming. WNCC goes to 2-1-1 on the season as they get ready for the Region IX Conference slate of games when they host Northwest College on Friday and Central Wyoming College on Saturday. Both matches have a start time of 3:30 p.m.
  • WNCC men earn 1-0 win over Casper College

    CASPER, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team put together a solid defensive effort and recorded the 1-0 shutout against Casper College on Saturday in Casper, Wyoming, in a non-conference contest. Casper College, who was one of the top teams in Region IX a year ago, was thwarted by a strong Cougar defense as WNCC picked up their second win of the young season.
  • WNCC men earn a tie against Southeast

    The Western Nebraska Community College and Southeast Community College men’s soccer teams had to not only battle each other on the pitch Monday at Landers Soccer Complex, but they had to battle the hot temperatures as well that hit 98 degrees at one time. The hot temperatures, however, didn’t affect the intensity on the field as the two teams settled for a 2-2 tie in each team’s second match of the season. WNCC head coach Todd Rasnic said it was a contest that showed what the Cougars need to improve on to continue on their season.
  • WNCC men's soccer looking to make history

    Last year the men’s soccer team managed just four wins on the season before falling in the quarterfinals of the Region IX tournament. This year, the outlook for the Cougar men is to claim a regional title. But, the players know to do that, they have to accomplish that feat in steps. “Our first goal it being Region IX champions,” sophomore Sebastian Arenas of Manizales Colombia, said. “But we know we have to go step-by-step.”
