WNCC softball wins two against Western Texas

                SNYDER, Texas – Two more wins and two more excellent pitching performances for the Western Nebraska Community College softball after they picked up a doubleheader sweep over Western Texas College Friday afternoon.

                In the opener, Andy Hancock tossed a 3-hitter as the Cougars pounded out five doubles in getting the 3-1 win. Game two was even more impressive as Whitney Fields and Christian Bobian combined on a four-hitter as the Cougars tallied 11 hits in the 12-0 win.

                The Cougars are now 4-0 on the season as they take on Western Texas College in another doubleheader on Saturday.

                The second game was an offensive and defensive show for the Cougars. Fields went four innings in scattering three hits and striking out two, while Bobian tossed the fifth with one hit.

                Offensively, WNCC was quite impressive, finishing with 11 hits, including five doubles and a triple.

                WNCC started the game plating two in the first and second before adding three in the third for a 7-0 lead. The Cougars put the game away in the fifth with five runs, highlighted by a 2-run double by Bobian that scored Desirae Visser and Brittany BIgge. Haille Weber followed with a 2-run single, scoring Bobian and Courtney Medina.

                Four Cougars finished with two hits each. Bobian went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a double, and a run scored. Jasmine Wessel finished with a double in her 2-for-3 performance, while Kenzie Sawyer had two doubles, two runs scored, and a RBI in her 2-hit attack. Visser also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a RBI, and a double. Bigge had the extra base hit with a triple.

                The first game was a close contest. WNCC got on the scoreboard first after Courtney Medina and Bobian led off with doubles. Wessel then hit a sacrifice fly to score Median for the 1-0 lead.

                The contest stayed that way until the sixth with WNCC added an insurance run as Sawyer scored Wessel with a sacrifice fly.

                The Cougars added another run in the seventh as Celyn Whitt doubled to lead off the inning and then scored on a Medina single.

                WNCC finished the game with seven hits. Whitt led the way with a 2-for-2 game with a double and run scored. Whitt also had two stolen bases.

                Medina also had two hits in four at bats. She had a double, a run scored, and a RBI.

                Hancock tossed an excellent contest, facing just 26 batters in seven innings in striking out two, walking one, and allowing a run on three hits.
