Weber powers WNCC softball to sweep over Central-Columbus

COLUMBUS – Haille Weber recorded six extra base hits as the Western Nebraska Community College softball team swept a doubleheader from Central Community College-Columbus Tuesday afternoon in a game that was originally slated for Saturday.

In the opener, Weber had two doubles and the Cougars finished with 11 hits in registering a 6-2 win.

Weber was a single shy of hitting for the cycle in the second game, finishing with four hits with a double, triple, and two home runs in leading the Cougars to a 20-5 win over the Raiders.

Weber finished the doubleheader going 6-for-8 with six RBIs, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and five runs scored.

The first game was a good battle between the Cougars and Raiders. WNCC's 11 hits included three doubles and a home run. Weber, Courtney Medina, and Christian Bobian all had two hits in the win. Medina had a run scored, RBI, and two stolen bases, while Bobian had a double and two RBIs.

Weber finished the game with two doubles and two runs scored.

WNCC scored in five of the seven innings. After the Raiders sliced the Cougar lead to 2-1 with a single run in the third, WNCC pushed across single runs in the fifth and sixth, and then two more in the seventh.

Oxford made it 2-0 with a lead-off solo home run in the third. Weber scored the only run in the fifth on a Whitney Fields single. The sixth saw Bobian double home Courtney Medina, while Medina and Bobian delivered run-scoring singles in the seventh.

As much as WNCC won big, it wasn't that way early as Central-Columbus led 4-1 after one inning. It was the second inning that put WNCC up for good, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits. Medina got the scoring onslaught going with a 2-run single. Bobian followed with a 2-run single before Weber blasted a 2-run home run for a 7-4 lead.
