MCCOOK — For the 12th time in the span of its last 13 games, the Western Nebraska Community College softball team scored double-digit run totals in a doubleheader sweep over McCook Community College on Wednesday afternoon in McCook.

The Cougars, who improved to 31-12 on the season, registered a 10-5 win over the Indians in the opener and followed that up with a 12-3 victory in a five-inning second game.

WNCC combined to score its 22 runs on 25 hits.

Five different players finished with two hits each in the 13-hit attack in game one. Celyn Whitt, Julia Suchan, Jasmine Wessel, Lauren Oxford, and Payten Davies all recorded a pair of hits. Wessel and Oxford both blasted home runs. Suchan finished with a triple and a double, while Whitt also added a double.

Wessel drove in three runs. Oxford and Madi Jackson both knocked in two runs each. Suchan scored a team-high three runs, while Whitt and Wessel both plated two runs.

WNCC broke open a one-run game in the fourth by scoring six runs.

Ashley Thomas earned the win in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out two in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Thomas also picked up the win in game two to improve her season record to 23-10. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits and fanned two in five innings.

Thomas again received plenty of offensive support as the Cougars piled up 12 hits. Oxford led the way with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Whitt, Wessel, and Davies all followed with two hits each. Davies and Suchan both blasted homers, while Whitt and Emily Selby each finished with a double.

Suchan and Oxford drove in three runs each. Whitt and Suchan scored three runs each. Scoring two runs each were Wessel and Davies.

WNCC has now won 11 straight in a row. The Cougars will look to stay on a roll when they travel to Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, for a doubleheader on Friday.
