WNCC softball goes 1-3 against Lamar over the weekend

                LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team went 1-3 in Region IX action with Lamar Community College over the weekend in Lamar Colorado.

                On Saturday, the Cougars dropped a doubleheader to the Lopes falling 14-6 and 11-6.

                On Sunday, the Cougars and Lopes split a doubleheader. WNCC fell in the opener 13-5 before coming back with six runs in the seventh inning to capture the thrilling 9-7 win in the final game of the 4-game series.

                The win on Sunday saw Lamar go up 3-0 before WNCC came back with two in the fourth. Lamar answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-1 lead. WNCC scored another run in the fifth as Jenika Fuentes doubled home Sierra Hilgner to make it a 4-3 game.

                Lamar plated three in the sixth to go up 7-3. WNCC mounted a seventh-inning rally all with two outs. It started when Hilgner earned a walk followed by a 2-run home run by Madi VanRiper. Bailey Legere then tripled and scored on a Baylee Krueger double. Krueger came around to score on a Fuentes double to tied the game. Fuentes scored on a Randi Mitchell double to take the 1-run lead and then Mitchell scored on a Reagan Werth single for the insurance run.

                No other statistics were available for Saturday's or Sunday's game. Statistics will be updated on Monday on the website. 

                WNCC will be back in action Tuesday when they face Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in a doubleheader on the road before returning home Saturday and Sunday to face Trinidad State College in a 4-game conference series.
