WNCC women capture second win of season

                GILLETTE, Wyo. --  Sladjana Rakovic finished with 21 points and the Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball captured its second win of the season with a 69-54 win over the Campbell County All-stars in the Gillette Classic Friday.

                WNCC earned its second win of the season by outscoring the All-star team 40-23 in the second half. The All-stars led 31-29 at halftime.

                Second half shooting was the main difference. WNCC shot just 34 percent in the first half but caught fire in the third and fourth quarters, shooting 46 percent while also connecting on 9 of 10 free throws.

                WNCC was 15 of 20 from the free throw line on the night to 14 of 23 for the All-stars.

                WNCC out-rebounded the All-stars 43-34 and force 25 turnovers.

                Rakovic finished with a double-double in the game, finishing with 21 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.

                Two other Cougars also finished with double-figures. Jaleesa Avery netted 12 points while Anastacia Johnson had 10 points. Bree Paulson chipped in seven points while Deniz Dalkirin had six points.

                WNCC dished out 13 assists and had 17 steals. Johnson had three assists and four steals, while Zeynep Canbaz collected five steals.

                WNCC will take on Gillette College, defending Region IX Champions, today in the second day of the classic.
