WNCC women bury 12 threes in 79-52 win over Central Wyoming

                RIVERTON, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team buried 12 3-pointers and put four players in double figures enroute to a 79-52 win over the home-standing Central Wyoming College Rustlers to close out the Tip-Off Classic in Riverton, Wyoming, Saturday.

                The Cougars move to 3-0 on the season will next be in action next weekend when they head to Rock Springs, Wyoming to face Western Wyoming Community College and Laramie County Community College.

                The Cougars trailed just twice in the contest as Central Wyoming scored the first bucket of the contest and then the Rustlers led 5-4. After that Rustler 3-pointer, the Cougars heated up, going on a 11-0 run and finishing the quarter on a 13-3 run to lead 17-8 after one period.

                The second quarter saw WNCC jump to a 22-8 lead and led 35-18 on a Laura Montiel trey. The Cougars led 39-20 at halftime.

                The third quarter saw the Cougars outscore the Rustlers 21-13. Central Wyoming started the third with five straight points and only trailed 41-28 early on. WNCC opened the lead after that as Helena Kuck hit a trey and Montiel had two free throws for a 46-28 lead.

                With the score at 48-32 in favor of the Cougars, WNCC outscored Central Wyoming 12-1 the rest of the third to grab a 60-33 lead. That 12-1 run was highlighted by eight points by Amiyah Donaldson and buckets by Mackenzie Joseph and Kiley Smich.

                The fourth quarter saw each team trade buckets as WNCC cruised to the final 79-52 win.

                WNCC shot 36 percent from the field and buried 12-of-33 3-pointers. Donaldson had four treys while Montiel and Kuck each had two.

                WNCC tallied 42 rebounds to Central Wyoming's 30 boards. Faith Walker pulled down 13 rebounds followed by Joseph, Montiel, and Gal-La Font each with six.

                WNCC had four in double figures led by Donaldson with 16, Walker with 14, and 12 each from Montiel and Smich. Joseph had seven while Kuck had six.
