No. 1 WNCC sweeps Casper

                CASPER, Wyo. -- The top-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team captured their 11th straight win by sweeping past Casper College 25-18, 26-24, 25-9 Thursday in Casper, Wyoming.

                With the win, the Cougars move to 19-2 on the season and will have a big Highway 26 battle with No. 16 Eastern Wyoming College Friday in Torrington, Wyoming. First serve for the rivalry match between two teams have a combined four losses between them is 7 p.m.

                Thursday night, the Cougars controlled the first and third games. The second game was a dogfight as WNCC held on to win 26-24.

                A big key in the Cougars win Thursday was starting and finishing strong.

                WNCC had plenty of contribution in the win. Barbara Briceno and Lara Picht led the way on the hitting side, finishing with 14 and 12 kills respectively.

                Briceno also tallied 10 digs and seven points, while Picht added three digs and five points.

                WNCC also received six kills and six digs from Brooke Kaawa, while Kaylee Spreier had four kills and seven points. Both Kaawa and Spreier each had a solo block.

                Bia Berti had a solid night setting as well. The freshman finished with 31 set assists along with six digs and six points. Genesis Benitez-Fontanez had five digs; Kirstee Trees had 12 points and four digs; Kadara Marshall had a kill, Larissa Perez had an ace serve; Danika Daum had two set assists and a kill; Lauren Shaul had three digs; and Joise Maldonado tallied two kills and a dig.
