WNCC sweeps Lamar

                LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team bounced back from Thursday's loss to Otero Junior College by sweeping past Lamar Community College 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 on Friday in Lamar, Colorado.

                The wins pushed the Cougars record to 22-3 and their Region IX South conference record to 2-1. Lamar goes to 1-1 in conference play after dropping Northeastern Junior College in five sets on Thursday and 12-10 overall.

                Friday's win saw the Cougars finish with 43 total kills and saw the team play well defensively, finishing with 49 digs.

                Brooke Kaawa finished with a double-double to lead the Cougars. Kaawa tallied 10 kills and 13 digs. She also finished with five points.

                Kaawa was just one of three players with double-figure kills. Lara Picht and Barbara Briceno each had 10 kills. Picht also had four digs, while Briceno had eight digs, nine points, and two aces.

                Also for the Cougars, Kaylee Spreier had five kills, a solo block, three digs, five points, and an ace serve; Bia Berta had two digs, 25 set assists and four points; Kadara Marshall with two kills and three digs; Danika Daum with two kills, three kills, and 12 set assists; Genesis Benetiz-Fontanez had five digs; Kirstee Trees with four digs and an ace serve; Lauren Shaul with a dig and two points; Alwaise Villa with two digs; and Bailey Foiles with a dig.

                WNCC, 22-3, will look to pick up another win Saturday when they travel to Trinidad State Junior College for a 1 p.m. contest. The Cougars will then face Northeastern Junior College on the road on Wednesday before two home matches next week against McCook on Thursday and Casper on Saturday.
