WNCC volleyball tops LCCC in five sets

                CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Gabriele Canavati tallied 20 kills and the Western Nebraska Community College volleyball needed five sets to beat Laramie County Community College Tuesday night in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

                The Cougars captured their fourth straight win with a 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11 win over the Golden Eagles to move to 7-3 on the season.

                Canavati led the hitting attack for the Cougars with 20 kills followed by 12 kills from Leslie Mamai-Lagafuaina. Luisa Beining also tallied nine kills while Karen Cordero had seven and La'Treva Kennedy getting five. Olivia Schaub Anu Kaohi finished with two kills each.

                Olivia Transafiguracion finished with 47 set assists, 12 points, and 16 digs in the win.

                Mamai-Lagafuaina had five solo blocks and eight assist blocks, while Cordero recorded two solo blocks, 10 points, and three ace serves. Canavati had two solo blocks and four digs. Ana Costas had two ace serves, 12 points, and 10 digs. Anabelle Gillen finished with three aces, three points, and five digs, while Adia Sherbeyn chipped in eight digs.

                WNCC will be off until next Tuesday when they have their home opener against Eastern Wyoming College beginning at 7 p.m. at Cougar Palace.
