STERLING, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team earned a pair of sweeps in the Pizza Hut Invite in Sterling, Colorado, on Friday.

                The Cougars opened play with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 win over New Mexico Junior College before wrapping up the day with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-18 win over Sheridan College.

                It was WNCC's sixth straight win on the season moving the Cougars to 10-3 on the season.

                WNCC will have two matches on Saturday when they face Highland Community College before taking on No. 20 Utah State University Eastern.

                In the win over New Mexico Junior College, WNCC had a balanced attack at the net led by Gabriela Canavati with eight kills followed by seven each from Karen Cordero, Leslie Mamai-Lagafuaina, and Luisa Beining. Olivia Schaub also pitched in five kills.

                Canavati finished with eight points followed by seven points each from Cordero, Mamai-Lagafuaina, and Ana Costas. Cordero and Mamai-Lagafuaina each had two aces, while Olivia Transfiguracion had 37 set assists.

                In the win over Sheridan, Cordero had a double-double of 10 kills and 11 points, Cordero also had four aces.

                Mamai-Lagafuaina tallied nine kills with four points, while Anuhea Kaohi had five kills followed by Arianna Mitchell with four, Alex Hernandez with three, and La'reeva Kennedy with two. Transfiguracion had 27 set assists and six points, while Andrea Tsvetanova had 13 set assists. Adia Sherbeyn finished with five points and two aces.
