WNCC volleyball tops Trinidad for sixth straight win

                TRINIDAD, Colo. – Karen Cordero throws down 20 kills and the 19th-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team captured its sixth straight win with a 25-12, 25-16, 22-25, 25-10 conference win over Trinidad State Junior College on Friday.

                The Cougars, 17-5, will continue with conference road wins on Saturday when they face Otero Junior College, who received votes in last week's NJCAA national poll.

                WNCC had little trouble in the three sets they won on Friday.

                Several Cougars stepped up in the win. Cordero led the team with 20 kills, eight points, and four digs. Leslie Mamai-Lagafuaina finished the game with 12 kills and two solo blocks.

                Luisa Beining finished with eight kills, while Gabriela Canavati and Alex Hernandez each had six. Hernandez also had five digs, while Canavati tallied four digs.

                Olivia Transfiguracion finished the match with 36 set assists with three kills, five digs, and six points. Andrea Tsvetanova finished with nine set assists, four points, two aces, and three digs.

                Also for the Cougars, Ana Costas had 23 digs and 11 points, while Adia Sherbeyn had 18 digs and eight points. Anabelle Gillen finished with 15 points and nine digs.
