WNCC soccer falls to LCCC in semis

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men's soccer team saw their season come to an end falling to Laramie County Community College 3-0 in the semi-finals of the Region IX tournament in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Friday afternoon.

LCCC plays for the Region IX Saturday afternoon against  Otero, who downed Casper 2-0 in the other semifinal. The winner Saturday qualifies for the national tournament.

WNCC head coach Todd Rasnic said they played a little better in the second half, but just couldn't get any shots to go into the net.

"We played a little better [in the second half], but literally their goals were miscommunication," Rasnic said. "We just didn't execute. That is all I can say about it. We didn't execute the game plan. We didn't do it in the first half and we did it better in the second half, but it was too late."

LCCC scored three first-half goals. The Golden Eagles score in the 17th minutes as Omar Castruita scored into the top corner for the 1-0 lead.

LCCC doubled the lead as Jared Ramos scored in the 23rd minute and then 16 minutes later, Manny Tapia scored to make it 3-0 at intermission.

After intermission, the Cougar defense played better in not allowing a goal by LCCC. But the three goals in the first half were too much to overcome.

WNCC was outshot in the game 20-8. WNCC only had one shot on net in the contest and that was by Rodrigo Cercal.

Imanal Munoz had eight saves in net

LCCC won the corner kick battle 7-1.

Rasnic said his team did have a good season and they return a lot of the starters for next year.

"I thought we played well [during the season]," he said. "I thought we were better than every team that we played. To beat that team, you have to have a great game. We had some mistakes that cost us goals and that is what happened today. We made silly mistakes and it cost us the game."

WNCC had a very young starting lineup with like at least three players that will be leaving after this year – Washington Alves, Ygor Brito, and Vitor Huertas.

"We have a starting lineup coming back so we are ahead of the game," Rasnic said. "It is just can we get better to make to make next season go better. I know what I will be working on in the off-season."
