GOODLAND, Kan. – The Western Nebraska Community College men's and women's soccer teams wrapped up the regular seasons splitting matches Tuesday at Goodland, Kansas, against Northwest Kansas Technical College.

The men didn't have the same luck, falling to the Mavericks 3-1. The Cougar men concluded their season with a 6-9 mark and dropping their last four matches.

The Cougar women, on the other hand, enter the playoffs on a roll with an 8-4-1 record and scoring eight goals in their last two matches.

Tuesday afternoon, the women were led by a variety of players, including two goals from Kennedy Lawes.

The men's contest was close for a half. Northwest scored first just six minutes into the contest. WNCC kept playing strong as Gage Smith scored in the 25th minutes off an assist from Daniel Becerra. Both squads entered halftime knotted at 1-1.

Northwest put the match away with two goals in the second half for the 3-1 win.

WNCC finished the contest with nine shots compared to 14 for Northwest Kansas.

Cougar goalkeeper Miguel Enriquez had two saves in net.

While the Cougar men ended the season, the Cougar women will host Trinidad State in a first-round Region IX playoff contest on Oct. 31. The contest will begin at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Region IX tournament the next weekend in Denver.
