WNCC women’s soccer go 0-1-1 over the weekend

The Western Nebraska Community College women's soccer team opened up Region IX play Friday and Saturday against Trinidad State Junior College and Otero Junior College in Colorado, going 0-1-1 over the weekend.

On Friday, the Cougars and Trinidad settled for a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. Saturday saw Otero shut out the Cougars 2-0 in a match that was close most of the time until Otero scored a late second half goal.

Against Trinidad, The Trojans scored first on a goal by Alejandra Mendez to go up 1-0. WNCC came back to score the tying goal by Eden Washington. Neither team scored again to settle for the tie.

Trinidad outshot WNCC 19-11. Washington had three shots on goal while Janalynn McKay had two and one each for Brittany Hunsley and Marissa Dahlvang.

Allison Parker made 20 saves in net for a 95.2 save percentage.

Trinidad State also had three corners to WNCC none.

The Otero match was all Rattlers in possession, but close on the scoreboard. Otero had 34 shots on goal to just one for the Cougars. WNCC's only shot came from McKay.

Despite the shot disparity, Parker registered 31 saves in net for the Cougars.

The Rattlers two scores came from Cassi Moosburger.

WNCC will return to the pitch on Saturday and Sunday when the men's and women's team travel to Great Bend, Kansas, to face Pratt Community College on Saturday and Barton Community College on Sunday.
