Sheridan clips WNCC women’s soccer

The Western Nebraska Community College women's soccer team lost a tough contest to Sheridan College 2-1 in Region IX action Friday afternoon at the Landers Soccer Complex.

The Cougars and Generals didn't see any scoring in the first half as WNCC was going against the wind.

The second half saw all the scoring and WNCC coach Todd Rasnic today was another match where his team didn't put 90 minutes together.

"Today I thought we were sluggish and played a bit slow," he said. "Eden, one of our sophomore leaders, stepped up and finished a ball today. We just have to be more effective in the final third. I think if we get there, it will help us finish off games than we are in now."

The Cougars main problem on the day was possession, something Rasnic said they figure out, they will win a lot of games.

"We just simply are not being responsible with the ball," he said. "We are sending too many balls to the opponent. We just need to clean it up technically a little bit and I think it should be good for us going forward."

Sheridan netted the first goal in the 50th minute. But it didn't take WNCC long to get the equalizer as Eden Washington took a pass from Jesse Michel and tied the contest three minutes later.

Sheridan scored the go ahead goal on a goal by Sarah Jones in the 65th minutes.

Sheridan had eight shots in the match with four corner kicks.

WNCC had 10 shots and no corner kicks. Allison Parker made six saves in net for the Cougars.

The Cougars look to get back on the winning track when they host Northwest College at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Northwest fell to Laramie County Community College 2-0 on Friday.

Rasnic expects it to be a tough match.

"It will be a tough game and we will have to see what kind of fight they got," he said.
