WNCC women shutout by Otero

The Western Nebraska Community College women's soccer team fell to Otero Junior College 5-0 on Friday at the Landers Soccer Complex.

Otero scored twice in the first half and never looked back. Mattie Rose Alpert scored both first half goals, the first coming just six minutes into the match and the second going into the back of the net six minutes before halftime.

Otero continued to play well in the second half, scoring three more times. Just a minute and a half into the second period, Estefany Gonzalez found the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. With 32 minutes to play, Cassandra Moosburger netted a goal for the 4-0 lead and with 17 minutes left, the Rattlers' Georgia Findlay scored.

WNCC, despite the loss, did play the talented Rattlers tough as they were battling toe-to-toe. WNCC had five shots in the game with two good shots in the first half coming from Janalynn McKay and then Marissa Dahlvang.

WNCC kept fighting in the second half, too. Juliana Stratford has two shots including a break-away that she ended going one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Her shot, however, went wide.

Otero finished with 33 shots to WNCC's five. The Rattlers also had seven corner kicks. WNCC goalkeeper Allison Parker had 10 saves in net.

WNCC will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Trinidad State. Trinidad will be entering Saturday's contest with a chip on their shoulders, after falling 8-0 to Laramie County on Friday.
