No. 5 LCCC shuts out WNCC

Laramie County Community College's Shauni Griffiths scored three goals and dished out three assists as the Golden Eagle women's soccer team showed everyone why they are the fifth ranked team in the nation with an 8-0 win over the Western Nebraska Community College women's soccer team Wednesday afternoon at Landers Soccer Complex.

Abby Morillon also finished with three goals in the win for the 13-1-1 Golden Eagles. Morillon also chipped in an assist.

LCCC's depth was definitely the defining moment in the match as the Cougars suited up just 12 players for the match because of a rash of injuries that have hit the team.

Still, while the Golden Eagles had the numbers, the Cougars played tough getting a number of shots against a talented LCCC team.

The Cougars had eight shots, including six on goal. Eden Washington had three shots on goal while Janalynn McKay had two. Juliana Stratford also had another shot on goal.

The afternoon, though, belonged to LCCC. The Golden Eagles struck first as Morillon scored just two minutes in off an assist from Griffiths.                 LCCC closed out the first half scoring with 21 minutes left as Nikita Woods scored off an assist from Griffiths.

WNCC, trailing 4-0 at this point, did pick things up. McKay had a good shot on goal with 7 minutes left when the sophomore from Logan, Utah, took a free kick and angled the ball around the right side of the wall that went just wide.

WNCC continued to play tough the rest of the first half to trail 4-0 at intermission.

The second half saw LCCC score four times. The Golden Eagles scored just a minute into the half as Griffiths scored off an assist from Aubrey Gessner. After that WNCC's defense was stifling the LCCC offense, holding them from scoring. In the meantime, WNCC's Washington had a shoot shot on goal that went just high.

Leading 5-0, LCCC finally found the net once again. Morillon scored off an assist from da Silveira with 19:32 left and the Morillon scored against 10 minutes later off an assist from Griffiths for the 7-0 lead.

LCCC closed out the match with a goal with 1:24 left as Griffiths scored the hat trick off an assist from Aubri Schneider.

LCCC peppered the goal with 38 shots, including 23 on goal. LCCC also had three corner kicks and six fouls.

WNCC starting goalkeeper Allison Parker had 17 saves in net.
