WNCC women tie Lamar in conference action

action against Northwest

LAMAR, Colo. – In one of the more even matches of the season, the Western Nebraska Community College and Lamar Community College women's soccer teams couldn't settle things on the soccer field as the two teams tied 2-2 Saturday in a Region IX conference contest in Lamar, Colorado.

Saturday's contest was one where the Cougars dominated on the offensive end, but could only bury two goals.

Lamar got the scoring going first as Emma Long scored to give the Runnin' Lopes an early 1-0 lead. The Cougars tied the game before halftime when Lesley Vasquez delivered the ball to Tania Razo, who found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The Cougars came out in the second half and went up 2-1 as the combination of Vasquez and Razo scored again. Razo netted her second goal to put WNCC up 2-1.

WNCC couldn't hold the lead as Lamar's Daisy Gonzalez scored to even the score at 2-2 and that is where the game ended.

WNCC outshot Lamar 29-14. Razo and Aileen Perez each had four shots in the contest. Perez had all four on goal while Razo had three on goal. Vazquez also had three shots while Alejandra Rodriguez had two.

WNCC goalkeeper had seven saves in net.

Both teams had seven corner kicks.

WNCC, 3-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play, will be back in action this weekend when they host Trinidad State on Friday and Otero on Saturday. WNCC will then wrap up the regular season October 14 when they host Laramie County Community College on October 14.
