  • WNCC women fall to Central Wyoming
    October 12, 2024
    RIVERTON, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team saw their season come to an end after falling 2-1 to Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyoming. WNCC finished eighth with 10 points in the conference standings and the top six teams make the post-season tourney. The Cougars finished the season at 3-11-1 and were 3-6-1 in conference play. The six teams that made the playoffs included Casper and Western Wyoming will get the byes as the top two teams. The other four teams -- Northwest, Laramie County, Gillette, and Otero -- will play next weekend in first-round games.

    POWELL, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team played with a lot of determination and had the third-place team in the conference on the ropes for three-fourths of the contest. The final 20 minutes was the difference as Northwest scored four goals to claim the 4-0 win.
  • WNCC women fall to LCCC

    CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team played strong against Laramie County Community College on Saturday, but in the end, the Cougars fell to the Golden Eagles 4-1 in action in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-9-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in conference play. WNCC sits in seventh in the conference standings and needs to win twice this weekend to be guaranteed a playoff spot, but they also need some help from other teams. WNCC has 10 conference points (three points for a win and one point for a tie), while the sixth-place team, Gillette College, has 12 points and two games left.

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team split contests in southern Colorado over the weekend. The Cougars opened the trip with a 6-0 win over Trinidad State College on Friday where Yasmin Urbina and Danae Montalvo had two goals each in the win. WNCC wrapped up the weekend in falling to Otero College 3-o on Saturday.
  • WNCC women pick up a pair of wins over the weekend

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team captured their first wins of the season as the Cougars defeated Northeastern Junior College 1-0 on Friday and then defeated Lamar Community College 2-1 on Saturday. The two wins put the Cougars at 2-7-1 overall and to 2-2-1 in conference play. WNCC returns to action next weekend when they hit the road against Trinidad State College on Friday and Otero College on Saturday. Friday’s win was a defensive contest against NJC and Millie Selfe registered her first collegiate goal as WNCC won 1-0.
  • WNCC women fall to Gillette 1-0 in a competitive contest

    Fifteen seconds was all the difference from a tie, win and a loss for the Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team on Saturday in the home contest with Gillette College. The Cougar women played well enough that could have won with their aggressive play, but it was just 15 seconds left in the first half that was the difference. WNCC had plenty of opportunities and came up short earlier in the first half. Amanda Duante had a shot go high with 34 minutes left. Later, Ashley Villagomez had a shot that went high with 19:50 to play. With 7:42 in the first, WNCC had a corner kick they couldn’t convert on.
  • WNCC women tie Casper in conference play.

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team has had its struggles in the first three weeks this season, but on Friday everything game together perfectly as the Cougar women played strong defense and scored when they needed in registering a Region IX conference tie with Casper College 1-1 at Landers Soccer Complex. Freshman Amanda Duarte of Brazil, said this was a team win in so many ways for her team. “We played as a team and we were strong and played for each other,” Duarte said. “We played secure and with a lot of attention.”
  • WNCC women fall to Northwest 4-2

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough as Northwest College scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to take a 4-2 win Friday morning at the Landers Soccer Complex. The contest was a battle from the get-go and neither team scored for the first 34 minutes. WNCC finally put together a nice run that saw Danae Montalvo take a corner kick from Amanda Duarte and gave Ariel Veliz a perfect pass for the goal with 10:57 to play in the first half.
  • WNCC women’s soccer falls to Utah State-Eastern

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team played hard, but battling injuries, the Utah State-Eastern women scored two second-half goals to capture the 3-0 win Thursday morning at Landers Soccer Complex to open the season. WNCC coach Todd Rasnic said they have some work to do, but they will get better. WNCC hosts Northwest College Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the soccer complex. “The women’s game just shows that we have work to do. We have a lot of injuries and we are down numbers,” Rasnic said. “They will grow. Right now they are struggling because of numbers and we are a little unorganized. We need to get more organized as a team and I think we will go a long way.”
  • WNCC women’s soccer opens season Thursday

    The Western Nebraska Community College women’s soccer team will open the 2024-25 soccer season on Thursday when they host Utah State-Eastern at the Landers Soccer Complex with plenty of optimism for a strong season. The Cougar women will begin the doubleheader at 10 a.m. at the home soccer complex with the Cougar men facing Utah State-Eastern at 12 noon. The Cougar women will then host Northwest College on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s contest.
