WNCC captures 18th straight win over Lamar

                LAMAR, Colo. – The top-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team captured its 18th straight victory registering a sweep over Lamar Community College in Region South action Friday evening in Lamar, Colo.

                WNCC's 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 win over the Lopes was quite impressive against a Lamar team that fell to Northeastern Junior College in five games Thursday night. With the win, the Cougars move to 31-3 on the season.

                The Cougars, once again, utilized a balanced attack offensively. Serving was a big plus for the Cougars on the night, registering 11 aces. Jady Gerotto finished the night with six aces and 10 points. Shaney Tiumalu also had three aces and 11 points, while Keala Kaio-Perez and Fabiana Andrade each had an ace.

                Offensively, WNCC finished with 40 kills. Barbara Rabanal paced the team with 11 kills followed by Lara Picht with eight, Gerotto with seven, Andrade with thee, and Santanna Mitchell with two.

                Kaio-Perez had a good contest as well, finishing the contest with 12 digs and seven points. Andrade dished out 32 set assists, had seven digs, and six points.

                Also for the Cougars, Gerotto had four digs, Rabanal had seven digs, Fautino Manu with five digs.

                WNCC, 7-0 in Region IX South play, will look to remain unbeaten in conference play when they finish the southern Colorado trip with a 1 p.m. contest against Trinidad State Junior College today.

                The Cougars will then return home next week for four matches to wrap up the home portion of their schedule, beginning with a contest Wednesday against McCook in dorm parent recognition night.
