WNCC sweeps Trinidad for 32nd win of season

                TRINIDAD, Colo. – Lara Picht and Jady Gerotto combined for 23 kills and the top-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team captured its 19th straight victory with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 win over Trinidad State Junior College in South Conference action Saturday afternoon at Trinidad, Colo.

                The win moves the Cougars to 32-3 on the season and 8-0 in conference play.

                Gerotto paced the Cougars with 12 kills while Picht tallied 11 kills. The Cougars finished the match with 45 kills.

                Besides Gerotto and Picht, WNCC received six kills and three blocks from Barbara Rabanal, while Santanna Mitchell and Shaney Tiumalu each finished with five kills. Kennedy Cyza and Fabi Andrade each chipped in three kills.

                WNCC's defensive attach was also strong. The Cougars finished with 34 digs in the three-game win. Keala Kaio-Perez finished with nine kills followed by eight from Andrade, six each from Rabanal and Fautino Manu.

                Rabanal had an all-around contest. Besides her six kills, three blocks, and six digs, the freshman from Lima, Peru, finished with four set assists and 13 points with two aces.

                Andrade led the team with 35 set assists along with six points and two aces.

                Also for the Cougars, Katy Ernest had four points, while Tiumalu had four points and an ace.

                WNCC will wrap up the home portion of its schedule next week when they face McCook Community College on Wednesday in Dorm Parent Recognition Night. WNCC will then host the Lady Cougar Classic next weekend, where they will face Laramie County Community College and Eastern Wyoming College on Friday and Iowa Western Community College Saturday afternoon.
